It looks like there are a couple of hairline cracks. Or the beginnings of. I'd exchange it.
You think that etching puts it at risk for cracking?
    I'm talking about these.

Thanks Michael.  Still on the fence.  But since it's brand new, perhaps better safe than sorry.
I agree with Carolina Q.  The killer for ceramics is stress risers.  Every one of those imperfections, including the dimples with dried clay smashed in them will function as a stress riser.

During heating and cooling cycles you run a greater risk of cracking along the imperfections than in a nice smoothly made area.

A smooth well made ceramic will defintely live longer than a blemished ceramic with lots of stress risers.
You are so full of Shlt it's nauseating.  Like whatever worthless degree you have from nobody U qualifies.  Your definition of risers....

Hey now, I slept at a Holiday Inn last night.  Plus, I went to everybody gets inn U.
Oh man, my bad.  I applied to everybody gets in U and got turned down.  Very impressed.  Was stuck with SEC basketball.
    Huh?
    I MEAN HUH???
why should anyone pay $75 for a p/o/s which should never have gotten past QC? Honestly if BGE keeps that crap up then it will be no wonder why they let other producers eat their lunch!

Christ Ron, it was facetious.   I called out the QC.  Will it really translate into performance?  No.  Not at all.  Etching or crazing does not equal a crack.  His piece will be fine IMHO.  I was messing with @Ozzie_Isaac.  I apologize for the confusion.  And respect your input.

We use ours as a Frisbee, but we are very large people. Our dog really hates catching these things.

If it bothers you, even in the very least of ways, return it.

Inspect everything you purchase from BGE prior to accepting it. No reason to pay money to be disappointed for any reason.

Great training tool. You either learn to catch the frisbee or you end up getting knocked out a lot.

I took it back and they swapped it out. They said they had seen some like that but wanted a happy customer. I'm glad I took it back. I feel better. Now this evening I will cook over it.

Don't be surprised when it breaks at the "weld". JBW doesn't like high temps. I don't remember the max, but you can easily reach it on the egg. You should have kept trying.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

How hot are you guys running on an indirect cook?  I don't think I've ever gone over 400 while using one.

Some folks do Pizza at higher temps than 400 when using the PS.

If/when it does break at that seam again just wire it up:

I was actually going to just do a Digiorno Frozen Pizza tonight just to fire up the egg.  Should that be the first thing I do on the plate setter? Should I just put the plate setter on upside down and put the pizza on it? Or should I put the grid on the plate setter and a pizza stone on top of that?

Yea if it was going to bother you (it would me) even though it is functionally functually sound I would have taken it back ... good choice.

You want pizza as high in the dome as you can get so the radiant heat will brown up the toppings. Place the setter legs down, then create an air cap of some kind. If you have the green feet they work great, otherwise a couple of foil balls will do the trick. then on top of that put your pizza stone. This is my setup using the adjustable rig from the ceramic grill store.
