80/20 on the cast iron skillet at 400. I threw in some red onion, jalapeño and mushrooms to top the cheeseburgers with. Very tasty!

I have been too chicken to try one of these on CI, either for fear of burning it or screwing it up somehow
Well, this looks like the ticket and the temp you provided put me over the top
Thanks mucho! -
It's my pleasure. I'm very happy with the results. 3-4 minutes per burger. Super simple. Good luck!LBGE

Consider getting this cheap Lodge pan. It makes it much easier to make smash burgers without the sides. Its what I used pre Blackstone. Have fun.

I just tried this myself for the first time. 500 for 90 seconds a side on a 12" square lodge griddle. smashed a 5" ball of 80/20 onto a pad of butter. used my other cast iron pan's bottom as the press lol. Pressed as hard as i felt comfortable. did four at a time. Seasoned w Grill Dust. Flipped them and repressed onto same spot, did not add more butter at flip, but seasoned other side. Topped w cheese. My wife and i ate double smashburgs. All smiles here. Kind of addicting. Lots of perfect crispy surface area, salty and peppery seasoning, grease and butter, and toasted bun in that griddle after i pulled the burgers. They soaked up a little of the juice. So damn good.

I hear you about the sides of the pan. That looks very useful. Thanks, Brent!LBGE

Yeah, I never understood why you guys just didn't heat up two cast iron pans, put the balls on, and smash them like a sandwich, cooking both sides at once. ?

It's the only way to make burgers! But the trick is the salt. I was getting lazy (since it's a no mix burger) and they were getting bland for some reason. I was going too light on the seasoning sprinkle. You hit that right with the special shaker... stellar.
It's also the easiest burger you can make and MUCH cheaper than even the mid-grade frozen burgers I used to keep in the freezer.
