Yes, 50 quid extra after splashing out 600 on a MMX is a bit of a kick in the balls. I suppose £500 all in is OK, probably going to get stung on postage for the platesetter as well though.Stormbringer said:
Yes. You can get one from BGE UK. Check the height of your fire box though, BGE changed the design of the internals. I have the original/old size. @Lit has pictures of the two.Eoin said:Got the go ahead on the MMX. Platesetter not included in the bundle, is there room in the MMX to make it worthwhile? Remember, no CGS option over here.
Whether the plate setter for the MM is worth £50 is a matter of perspective. I use ours a lot. -
I think that JL are scaling back on BGE anyway, they no longer sell the charcoal, lighters or any other accessories online. They used to have them listed as Out of Stock with an email request for when back in stock, standard trick to measure customer demand. Now the items just aren't there. Topstak still sell pretty much everything though.Eoin said:
We're going to John Lewis Friday, maybe there will be some accessories in the shop, otherwise I will probably buy it separately.Stormbringer said:

Anne was already thinking of buying me another Egg before I mentioned it, just couldn't work out which one. I had an easy sell on the MMX, it helps that she loves the food as well!

Seems to be a smaller range than last year, although a couple of weeks ago they only had large on the web site and MMX is there now. Will see if they have a BBQ display in Sheffield (they do it as seasonal), the problem is that they can't demo in a department store.Stormbringer said:

While physically a bit smaller the MiniMax is a heavy little sucker. The Small only weighs a kilo or two more. Still quite luggable.Eoin said:
The ability to travel with it means the MMX wins.Biggreenpharmacist said:

You're going to love it.

MiniMax is too cool for words... It is the most portable egg so if you camp or taiilgate, it will elevate your game. If you dont need portability you can still use mm to augment your other egg.
MM heats up fast, uses less fuel than other bges and it will get you to the point where you wont want to cook on anything else as much as youll want to cook on your bge mm. You will discover the mm has incredible utility and capacity for such a little guy.
Get it and enjoy.... -
@HeavyG another consideration is that the small is not available in the UK, nor the mini
. We go from the MM to the medium.

You're really gonna want the woo. I'm finding mine very tough to use without it.Slumming it in Aiken, SC.

What do you find difficult? I have no frame of reference here as I don't own a woo, however I do multi-level and raised level cooking with a DIY home kit as in the picture below to cook all manner of meals. What does a woo bring to the Egg that this doesn't achieve?Jeremiah said:You're really gonna want the woo. I'm finding mine very tough to use without it.
One reason for asking is that I am in the USA later in the year, and if there is a killer reason to get an accessory to bring back, I'm open to this. For every Yellowstone t-shirt or other merchandise item SWMBO buys, I get a BGE accessory in the luggage.

Where did you get the small upper grid?Stormbringer said:

@Eoin I got that from BGE UK, it's the SS grid for the mini (which BGE don't stock as an Egg, go figure) and was £15 at the time. However, now it's £40, I'm pretty sure you could find a cheaper alternative.
It is 26cm wide, I worked out that for the rise I was looking for, which fits the item below underneath with a little room to spare, 26cm was about the width limit:

This one could work, its 28cm:

Incidentally, that Weber basket is really worth getting. I use it a lot for dual level cooking. It fits perfectly between the bolts, I'll publish some pics tomorrow.

First let me say that I'm not a very good cook. Seriously. So I need all the help I can get. With the BGE platesetter alone I kept burning my indirect cooks. I got the woo and stone (which adds distance between the stone and grid) and had much better results. I recently discovered that I lost the woo stone combo (left it at a campground) and have been struggling since. But again, I kinda suck at cooking.Slumming it in Aiken, SC.

I have had some of his cooks....they don't suck. I second the use of the Woo. I think your mission should be more about how to get one.Jeremiah said:First let me say that I'm not a very good cook. Personally I love my MiniMax and bring it when we travel to the NC beach or our estate in the Hamptons. It's pretty much stock with a PS, and I haven't had any problems cooking with it in that configuration."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike
