Getting pushed into a decision / getting permission here. Our 18 year old is packing in his job in 2 weeks to study for his exams (have more TV time, more like). This is the job that got us 25% off on the XL and could get 25% off a MM for small cooks / camper vanning / just coz it's cool.

I know the answer from you lot, just need some more great arguments in favour ........

    Full Retail here in US is $600us(599) but does not normally include platesetter.
    Street price normally runs $450-525 in most areas I have seen them. Plus our tax in most areas somewhere around 8%.
    Getting 25% off would be a good deal. I have seen it priced as low as $400 on sale and at Eggfests but it's rare.
    It's great little cooker and sounds like a good choice for your needs listed above.

    @HeavyG  KJ has dealers and is more available online at a discount than BGE, £400 is possible. Never heard of Primo until I came on here, only 5 dealers in the whole of the UK.

    OK things have changed since we dived into the world of Egging. Even 18 months ago there wasn't a stockist anywhere near where we lived, and at that stage I wasn't prepared to shell out money without seeing something in action. Then Big Green Egg did a demo at the Whole Foods store in the town where I live ... the rest is history.

    As for the OP question, yes I think it's worth it, just on the lower lump consumption alone, it uses literally 20% of the lump that the LBGE uses. Factoring that in, I worked out the MM would pay for itself in 3 years, and that was before we started using it more regularly. Factor in your 25% cost reduction, and you've got a winning total cost of ownership argument right there. :D

    I take it everywhere we go while camping and tailgating. I am often asked to take it to parties, or other social functions.
    The MM makes our trips better, we eat healthier, and it is an absolute miser with lump. Awesome addition to the collection.
    Nothing like 4 - 5 hour hikes, and returning to ribs or a roast off a BGE.
    Others say there are more reasonable alternatives to use for mobile cooking. They are sure they are right.
    I know I am. I have used them before. Nothing compares to my BGE MM.
    Buy it, you will love it.

    If only cooking for a couple of you with youngster off to school I would get a Mini. 
    Have two Larges setting there as well as a MM and the Mini gets the work. 
    Salado TX & 30A  FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

    Still got 2 younger ones at school, plus one older living at home and another older moved out.  The 18YO will still be home 20+ weeks a year when he goes to college, so the XL will get plenty of action as there are often 7 to feed.

    I would be keen in a Mini as trips away are often just us 2 plus 1 child, but it's not imported into the UK for some reason, so MMX is the smallest available.

    Yes unfortunately, but as he dropped out another local dealer started to sell Eggs.

    It might be a good idea to stock up on food while you are still getting that discount. As to the minimax, call it an early birthday present or your son's severance pay and enjoy it.

    Yes. You can get one from BGE UK. Check the height of your fire box though, BGE changed the design of the internals. I have the original/old size. @Lit has pictures of the two.

    Whether the plate setter for the MM is worth £50 is a matter of perspective. I use ours a lot.

    We're going to John Lewis Friday, maybe there will be some accessories in the shop, otherwise I will probably buy it separately.

    Anne was already thinking of buying me another Egg before I mentioned it, just couldn't work out which one. I had an easy sell on the MMX, it helps that she loves the food as well!
