Rutland Gasket advice needed - off in one complete with the orange stuff

Apologies - I don't get on here much these days.

These days I live in Scotland and the weather is a bit tougher (I've had to dig the egg out of snow to fire it up).
Anyway a combination of cold weather and wet seem to have managed to dislodge my amazing RRP Rutland gasket. I seem to recall it soaked up water and froze onto the lid. I did just have a section that was loose but it was easy to just lie in place. You know how these things go - it has now come off cleanly orange rubbery stuff and all in a sort of gaskety rubber band.
Yes I cleaned the rim scrupulously before application and yes it's been about seven years though I don't egg as much, must resolve that.

So what's the best plan do you reckon start from scratch, just add more orange guck and stick the current one back?
Ideas?
My preference is to start again - I really love(d) that gasket, I have discarded the springs on the lid band on my medium and get a great seal, seems to work fine without but it's clunky putting the lid down. Perhaps I'll wait for a dry spell in the summer if we have one.

    Howdy James. Glad you like the Rutland, and sorry to hear you had this problem - but 7 years is still a long time to go without a gasket hassle, huh? but I digress ;). It really isn't necessary to clean off the edge unless the old Permatex has failed.  Also unless you have stretched that Rutland out of shape if I were you I would simply apply a uniform bed of Permatex on the base edge and lay the Rutland back in it. Close your dome and leave it alone for the mandatory 24 hour cure.

    Yes, a pretty decent run, certainly a value purchase ;)
    The permatex has come clean off the egg, still stuck to the gasket so holding it in shape. I guess a new layer of permatex will seal egg to old permatex.
    Permatex ultra copper from memory?

    Thanks, James! Yes,Permatex Ultra Copper. I've been amazed over the years shipping gaskets to foreign countries just how readily available that product is! It truly is a US made product with a global distribution and acceptance!
