OT scored the deal of a lifetime on camping equipment

Besides the BGE, My Beautiful Wife and I are outdoor enthusiasts. We both love hiking, exploring, backpacking, camping, etc.
A local outdoor specialty store was having a warehouse sale, so we went to check it out.
We scored a Marmot Limelight 8P tent, in my opinion, one of the, if not the best, 8 person, 3 season tent you can buy. REI sells these for $650.00, we got ours for $240.00. Awesome tent, easy to pack, 15 minute set up, durable to 50 mph sustained winds.
I also have the 3P for backpacking. Can't beat them, Lifetime warranty as well.

    This is not needed, actually. The image shown is with the rain fly on. Over 1/2 of the tent is nylon mesh, which not only allows MM smoke to escape, but is great for sleeping under the stars. Nothing like scoping out the Milky Way.

    Everything I have bought from Marmot, although pricy, much like the eggs, is worth the cost. Lifetime guarantee is one thing, but a guarantee against dicey weather is better.
    My experience with Marmot equipment has been stellar in all situations. I have been caught in bad weather before, with other campers. I was ok and my gear was dry. They spent a lot of time reinforcing their tents, and cleaning up messes. I did not.
    I have an 38L Osprey backpack, internal frame, and a 15 year old Kelty 70L external. Would not trade them for any other pack around.

    Also bought a pair of Obôz Bridger, Insulated, 8 inch, Dark Shadow backpacking boots for less than 1/2 price, which may be the real deal of the day.
    I had to have my left leg, ankle and foot rebuilt, so it is extremely difficult to find a good backpacking boot built to the specs I need to hike, much less carry a backpack.
    This has it all, and weighs much less than what I have been using. Plus my left foot is now much different in length and width of my right foot. These make the difference negligible, and they are as comfortable a boot as you will find, for people like me. Big lucky day for my Beautiful Wife and I.

    I have chased Suzy around for ten years. It is much better than stalking her and keeping her in the cellar until she agreed to be my wife.
    Seriously though, for car camping, Suzy likes a queen sized blow up mattress, the other car camping tent we had was built like a tank, and therefore, heavy as one, as well. Easy to set up, but a real birch to pack, haul and store.
    This one has about 1/4 of the weight and size, easy carry, easy to haul pack and store.

    Come on down to the Carolina mountains- spring is in the air. Pollen already started in the flatlands but a little worried this latest cold snap may ruin the flowers. 

    congrats on the score looks like a great tent. Any experience with Big Agnes? I saw one of their tents at the last OR show and liked the look of them.

    I almost snagged one with my REI member 20% off coupon last year. They look really nice and reviews are good. I really like the pole/fastener system they use.

    They updated their Flying Diamond 8 recently to compete with the Limelight 8P, and they have done a very good job in doing so. I actually considered that tent prior to our purchase, but, due to my past experience with Marmot, was the decision maker for us. I had planned on purchasing this tent in April, but this price was crazy good, I had to move now.
    Big Agness is a quality product. I know folks that own BA tents, they love them. At that level, customer service and guarantees mean everything. My experience with Marmot has been fabulous.
    I had ripped the mesh on the 3P, my fault, no doubt about it, and called them to see if they could fix it. 2 weeks later, good as new, and all I paid for was shipping. I am not aware of customer service like that at any other camping equipment manufacturer, aside from LL Beane. There may be others, but I am unaware.

    Have any suggestions for base camping and backpacking? My Beautiful Wife and I have long considered to visit your fine state, and do exactly that, explore the mountains.
    We typically go off trail, any places which are rarely seen interest us most.

    Nice pick up!  We've got a Eureka Copper Canyon 8 person that is supper nice for car camping, but is wayyyy to heavy for any kind of backcountry adventures.

    Nice and roomy tent easy to set up. Eureka makes some very good products, and a lot of outdoor enthusiasts swear by them. Great for car camping. I like their stuff.

    Got to agree with this in a big way. My brother has a house in Jonas Ridge very near the entrance in Linville. There is a beautiful half Millie hike up from his house with the most beautiful view of the entire gorge. It is a beautiful playground.

    Thank you for the information. I will check these out.
    We have been all over the place but have yet done anything systematic. Typically we look for an event, and build a trip around it. as an example, we do this each time we go to Red Rock, in Colorado.
    I would like to go on a trip focused on the area, and less so on the event. 
    We are going to see Joe Bonamassa in August, but we are doing a VRBO, staying in Estes Park mostly, taking mostly all day hikes with a couple of overnighters potentially.
    I really appreciate the insight. We may hit these up while in the area for the NC2B.

    If I recall correctly you posted some images of that trip and they were awesome. We are thinking about retirement now, and exploring options. We still think fondly of France, specifically the Burgundy region, and the Northwest USA.
