forgot to to say the good food is always a decent payoff though. Nice work.Seattle, WA -
Thanks Brothaman, actually had help from the other family we are staying with and with two out of shape 47 year olds the mm was pretty easy to transport. Trying to post shrimp pict here but download keeps failing. Apparently the bandwidth where we are staying has limitations

puerto penasco, sonora mexico...almost northern tip of sea of cortez, or as americanos would call it gulf of california. Clean, clear water, huge tide swings and just relaxing. Its arizona's beach. Got outta there today before the rowdy spring breaker crowd arrived.
It is ungodly hot and humid there august and sept. July is hot but usually dry, most of the rest of the year it is beautiful. Ive been there when its cold at nite warm by day, perfect.
the minimax was running from wed nite until this morning early as in 2am I am amazed at its long term cooking ability and efficient nonuse of fuel. Pork shoulder for 14 hrs, no problem. Kept hot coals in it for three days straight...roasted chiles, smoked a pork butt, kids made smores, roasted garlic cloves, made onions and mushrooms in foil last nite to accompany the georgeous filet mignon we made. I probably have a pict of a filet on my phone but last nite we killed a lot of brain cells so ill have to search a little for that one. twice baked taters too were a hit with the 5 kids on the trip..thankfully the woo, reg mm grate and an 8" grate gave me space to make the taters...then the steaks. It was a wow factor evening, and would not have been so without the minimax. Im sure other ceramic cookers could do the same thing. Just a great night all the way around.
The point is the MiniMax made a family trip awesome. It was a gathering place for the adults to drink beverages and talk about dinner plans that night and it was a place for hungry kids to come to after a long day fishing and swimming and just running on the beach to get a quesadilla, fresh off the pizZa stone to tide them over until our next meal.
-
Wow, I'm envious. Sounds like an amazing trip. I'm thinking I need a minimax too... Thanks for the post, so we can share a little piece of the experience.

Just joking tonight about driving to Mexico for our yearly trip so we could bring the egg!! We head all the way to the East Cape somit will
most like be flights!! Love Mexico for the beaches the fishing and the food!! -
@Hntnhrd, mi gusta muchisimo mexico! We went fishing at the estuary channel and saw tons of corvina amd triggerfish, as in dozens about 10' off shore. They werent biting our lures but some guys who had squid brought in a dozen triggerfish....
I wonder where in mexico the bge is made? Maybe they can arrange a rental program? We wanted to catch some fiah to go with the filet mignon for surf and turf but we came up nuts on the fish. Great time though
@reinhart36, get a minmax and youll never regret it. It is an awesome addition to your cooking arsenal -
@westernbbq, just awesome! To me that m is what this is all about - winderfum times with good friends and family memories, the great food and drink is just an enabler. Cheers!Doug

Beautiful picture. Looks very similar to an area in the northern Cortez that we visit frequently, San Felipe.
Squid on size 4 or 6 hooks with a dropper loop or Carolina rig and 6-8lb test will catch you a plethora of species (bonefish, corbina, spotted bay bass, triggers (great for ceviche!), various croakers, saltwater catfish, halibut, etc.) Don't use plastics, the triggers will tear the tails of those things up all day.
For the corvina, try 2-3" Krocodile spoons (silver, or a bit of blue) on an incoming tide. Even had luck catching good sized Sierra Mackerel from shore up to 7-8 lbs on the Krocs.

See? The bge forum isnt just about cooking, its about lifestyle! never been to san felipe but really want to go. Jeep usedto have a trip there amd when i had one i signed up and had to cancel due to death in familythe_crease said:Beautiful picture. @the_crease thanks for the fishing tips. Triggers just destroyed our plastic lures, and we fished the estuary channel at rising tide...saw a bunch of triggers and corvina. Just didnt catch any....
Awwsome time though! -
Believe the are made in Monterrey- I was actually there last week but no time to make a trip over and not even sure if the have a store front. If you get out to the store there are several new beers I tried this last trip that I liked- Victoria and Indio. They are amber/darker but very light and easy drinking. Beautiful view and hope you all enjoy your trip.Greensboro, NC

@westernbbq nothing like Baja for fishing , food and friendly people. We have had great luck over the years on bill fish with a local Panga captain. Last year I got hit in the ankle by a stingray the fist day of the trip swimming off the beach with the kids!! Only got to fish one day and we boated two striped Marlin that day. Got my best fish year before 300+ pound blue marlin.

Beautiful trip, thank you for sharing. I love taking the MM on vacation. Packing for it is like packing for a baby. You bring a lot of stuff, you end up not needing, but just in case. Often simple cooks are the best cooks, but you bring it all.
Looks like a great time. I have no problem toting the MM around, I find it travels very well."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

We got a plastic bin at wallyworld for $12, and the mm fit in it after i took the handle off. Stuffed the bin with mesquite, the accessories and the soft sided tackle box and strapped it to the aluminum rack with the orange strap come along ratchet action tie downs from harbor freight. Worked really well.
I do put cardboard and some old towels inside the mm where ceramic might meet ceramic so that vibration can be absorbed. Do you do this @YukonRon? No issues so far and cruising at 75mph with that setup is easy.... -
I just put it between the tent and plastic bins. I found an old decorative pillow I will put inside the MM, when I remember to do so, although most of the time I do not. It travels well on the roads (up to 90MPH), bad roads, and off road. I do not strap it down because there is no need with the way I pack it in. I love taking everywhere we go camping and tailgating. No issues. It is a tough lil hombre, a lot tougher than most realize."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

@westernbbq, looks like you had a great time. I wish I lived close enough to drive down there for vacation. But, being up here on the East coast I have to fly.
Hopefully, we will be retiring in AZ. Then, we'll be able to do it.
Headed to Cabo in a couple months for fishing and relaxing.

@pescadorzih, hey if youre ever in az and end up driving dowm to RP youre more than welcome to take my MM along....
I have been to Cabo once, awesome time. Eat at Mi Casa and La Golondrina if they are still there and im pretty sure they are.
i think we stayed at playa grande resort, which was beautiful. Did do some fishing and a little imbibing on that trip..... -
@pescadorzih don't know how many times you have been to Cabo but check out the Baja Forum on TripAdvisor for lots of good tips on restaurants etc.. also go to bloodydecks.com for fishing updates on their Baja forum. We are heading to Los Barilles may 13 for a week . ( 1 hour north of Cabo) way more laid back then Cabo deserted beaches and fantastic fishing. Have fun.

@Hntnhrd, yeah I follow BD. I'll be down the same time.
I'd love to do the East Cape sometime.
Water is a little cool at the moment. I hope it warms a little by then. I slayed the wahoo last year when I was down there. If the trolling is slow we'll do some bottom fishing for snapper and grouper. Fishing with Jaime on the "Jessica". He has a cult following on BD.
