Started the fire at 0215 this morning, in some bad weather, which I am waiting to get worse. Winds are gusting heavier than the steady 15 mph right now. I am guessing gust are around 20-30 mph. Actually, kind of nervous, about my neighbors ancient Tulip Poplar, it loses branches with hardly any wind, and tonight some major limbs have hit the ground. That sucker ever falls, party over.
Put the Brisket on at 0305, hovering around 240F dome temp presently, looking hopefully for a 250F DT max.
Getting close to 0330, have a conference call with Europe at 0400, then a USA CC at 0800.
By 0900 the storms will be pretty bad. We make it through those and we will be good.
Due to the weather being lousy and the wind being so gusty, I broke out the Q Guru, which I have not used in over a year. I checked for calibration, against boiling water, and it is perfect.
These cooks are the times where you are glad you have it, I think.
So far the cook smells wonderful. Using my favorite lump, Rockwood, and as mentioned previously, chunks of pecan for smoke.
Settling in for the ride, we will see how this cook goes. I would rather have a bourbon and just cook, but my poor foreign language skills would suffer making me far worse than I already am. So as not to offend anyone, I will soldier on with my own blend of French Press coffee and a cliff bar. I bought a box of the new peanut butter and banana. It is killer. If you like cliff bars, this one is the mac daddy.
    Until later......

Using an injection for this cook. 50% beef broth, 25% onion juice, 25% garlic juice. About 2 oz / couple hours. Every time I have used it, the results were phenominal.

Folks East of Louisville, this storm could really get ugly when it gets to warmer areas.

6 hours in, IT 157F, temps got a bit hot from the high winds early this morning, elevating pit temp to 266F, and dome to 305F. Got the temps dropping to target of 250F, but also trying to be careful not to extinguish the fire.
Got another line of bad weather approaching, if we can get through this one, we got it made.
Here is the hard work from the BGE thus far:

A thing of beauty right there.  You've got this-no weather guessers gonna mess with that for fear of follow-on repercussions.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

I must tell you, the very humid air is keeping the cooking fragrances of beef and pecan smoke heavy in the air. Makes me hungry going outside to check on things. The aroma is awesome, another reason, a brisket is my favorite cook.

Hoping my luck holds, for sure. I think the winds are about over, just a lot of rain left for today. Neighbors trees around here have taken a beating. Lot of branches laying around.

My next door neighbor mentioned the storm's strength, while telling me it kept her up all night. She explained that she took a peek out the back window to watch the trees bend, the lightning show, and the deluge of rain.
She followed by asking herself, what idiot would be out at this hour of night, in this horrible weather? Then she saw me, in my t-shirt and pjs, wearing flip flops, under the patio umbrella holding a flashlight messing around on the BGE.
She said risking my life over a all night cook could not be worth it.
    Ha, I laugh at her.
She was wrong, and I said to her, "I am not an idiot, I am a Democrat, thank you very much."
    Told her.

I had initially planned for 19.5 hours start of fire to stablize egg, cook then to serve. I adjusted the time line due to the storm to 16.5 hours, as per the knowledgeable advice afforded to me by my friends in this forum.
It appears that this cook may hit that square on the numbers.
Thank you my friend for the kind words, it is crawling through the stall right now hopefully it will bust through in full stride, and be worthy to serve this evening.

Great looking piece of cow Ron. I have no doubt, despite all the obstacles thrown your way, it will be another stellar cook. It just makes it taste that much better knowing the extra effort you had to go through. Enjoy!

Glad I did it, but I think I will build a covered cooking area this summer, to help negate the inconveniences such as weather and poor lighting. I had been wanting to for a while, I believe this was the final straw, so to speak.
Thank you for the kind words, still waiting for this one to punch through, hopefully it will not be awful.
