I like the improvements but I think the price increase is out of line with the added consumer value. The hinge looks cool- but I sure as hell don't want to pay $200 more for it.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

My local butcher, Patton's Meat Market in Duluth, GA, has a couple of the new KJ. I stopped in yesterday for something else and get to check it out. They've definitely invested in both their innovation and their product.

I had to laugh when I saw this!!! Big green who. I will say as a person who owns one of each they cook the same but the kj was and is a better value. I've "sold" my friends a few eggs but now I'd be hard pressed not to recommend the kjXL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2

I like the design and the color, but not the price tag if its is $1200 and the dealers around me are not nice to deal with and to far from my house. If I was in the market for a new grill I would look at it, but not sure I would buy one.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

I like these improvements, and it seems like it's something BGE could make for all existing customers to modify their own eggs with. At one point I heard they were making some changes to their hinges - anyone know if they will offer something in the future?Milton, GA

I regard it as very positive that BGE is being pushed a little. That's how the next innovation is made.

Why do they feel the need to dig at BGE?
-
Hopefully, BGE can make use of the R@D efforts done by KJ and make some upgrades to their product line. I have both brands and there is very little difference in the ability to make great tasting food but BGE does seem to lag behind in some of the "features" that come standard on the red models.

@stompbox not sure if your comment was directed at me, but I'm not digging at BGE. Just saying that they are resting on their laurels. I do hope that others push the envolope and make it better for all. I own both and can tell you there is no difference in the way that they cook (only 2 cooks in). A coworker want a ceramic grill, so I suggested he look at what's available and vote with his dollars. For me I love my egg and kj equally, but if I had it to do over I may not have gotten an egg just a kj big joe. I've spent more money on the egg based on needing to purchase all the accessories like egg mates, nest, and the raised cooking option.XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2

I think focusing on just the red and giving up on the black has really allowed them to move their product forward. laser focus baby, that's what it takes in today's market. I'm almost excited enough to tie my dog's leash to my XL and start throwing tennis balls.

BGE just sits around on their rumps and rides off the previous 10-15 years of name recognition. I know several people who don't even know how to light thier eggs, let alone cook on them, but have them on the patio as a conversation piece that extrudes wealth. This is what BGE wants.
I use my BGE's alot. The hinge on my large is a POS. Underbite, loosens up, the bands just never want to stay put, no matter what we do for them.
Sure the warranty stuff is worthwhile, but it's a bit of a hassle since they are hands off, and allow dealers to handle it. So it's alot of YMMV.
Anywho- the market isn't what it used to be, and KJ is capitalizing at the expense of BGE who doesn't care.-FATC1TY

I agree with the sentiments expressed above about BGE resting on their laurels and when that happens you are losing ground to your competition. The competitors are hungry and looking to differentiate their products, thus the innovation. BGE has been in this mode since creating the kamado market here. I don't know what will make them change as the entire kamado market is expanding and as long as you get the lion's share why worry?? But there is a plateau somewhere.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.
