KJ Lump

Costco has the KJ road show in town. Bad news for the XL BGE owners; their XL rotisserie will not fit the XL BGE.
On a side note, their lump is selling at about $15.00/bag, with two bags wrapped together.
I opened a bag and was impressed.

As you can see, hardwood, large chunks, with a excellent carbonized appearance. I will evaluate and advise on tonights cook, doing salmon, which really will tell about smoke flavor."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Looking forward to the review of KJ lump. Personally, I'm glad their rotisserie won't fit my XL Egg. Now I won't have the "wants" for another accessory. Saved some money right there.Greenwood, IN | XL BGE | Weber Genesis | Blackstone 28 | bunch of accessories

20 pound bags, still full of large chunks after filling the XL KAB (about 1/3 of the bag).

So far I agree. If this stuff hold up in the manner I think it will, I will go back and buy the rest of their inventory.bgebrent said:KJ lump (red bag) is very good stuff."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

It's good stuff. Huge pieces if that's your thing. Sometimes too big for the smaller egg. I do however find it to produce a fair amount of ash FWIW.

@YukonRon - thanks for the heads up. You can clean out the Bardstown location, I'll take care of Brownsboro road.

BTW- I have found that large pieces of lump can be transformed into a smaller size-not so for the reverse.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint. -
I take it that it's just regular ol' edge cut charcoal

@DoubleEgger - I hope so as I can't knowingly support that center-cut Commie stuff. However, any lump discussion has the makings of a great "food fight".

I do not like the KJ lump that I got.. Bought two (four bags).
The bags I got look different, but the size of lump looks about the same.------------------------------

Concur Cap'. FYI the seafood road show is in as well. Picked up 4 # for the game, and this bad boy on sale, Prime @12.70/pound.lousubcap said:@YukonRon - thanks for the heads up. You can clean out the Bardstown location, I'll take care of Brownsboro road.

Size matters. The circumference is different by a couple inches and will not have a stable fit.Photo Egg said:What stops the rotisserie from working on the BGE XL?"Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Too smokey. Took forever to get to temp and for bad smoke to disappear. Reminded me of Cowboy a long time ago when I didn't know better.YukonRon said:

Smoke is negligible temp settled @350F from lighting an oil soaked towel in about 55 mins from lighting, using plate setter and drip pan.

Salmon was perfect, only smoke flavor was a mild maple smoke I added. Roasted veggies on the MM were excellent with zero smoke flavor, My Beautiful Wife made candied carrots on the stove and apple pie for the birthday girl.

Never have had a bad experience with KJ lump. It's second only to rockwood IMO and not by much. I frequently mix the two brands together.VA Beach
