    Trump is "Flip-Flopping" on the 20% Tax

    the 9 billion dollar company that makes the ceramics in Mexico is not going to build/retool a mill in America for that little bit of business, so they'll need a new manufacturer. Maybe KJ's manufacturer has capacity.

    Businesses way of thinking it:  prices 20% higher.  Efficiency impacts profit, unless they're complete idiots, they've been doing that already.

    They could. They'd have to find a new partner. Not sure what they're contract is.

    ...and here I was, thinking "the wall" was a metaphor for a better system of preventing people and goods illegally entering our border from Mexico.

Given the Trumpster's mastery of relations with China to date there is no doubt that China would love to fill any void that this issue may cause in US/Mexican relations.

    Nobody is saying they can't. You'd have to ask BGE why they don't.

    VAT is a value added tax, in Canuckistan we call it the Goods and Services Tax, GST. It is basically a federal sales tax as it does not apply to everything. Just south of me in WA, the sales tax is 8.7%, which I think is 5% state sales tax and 3.7% county/city sales tax. In BC we have 5%GST, 7% PST, provincial sales tax - no city sales tax in Canada that I know of. 
    When POTUS says border tax, he really means tariff, I think.  

    Not speaking for him/her but @Eoin implied that Mexico might retaliate with a like tax on American stuff, soybeans, auto parts, beef etc...

    I guess it's sort of lost in the context of the forum, my comment was tongue-in-cheek. Hence the "magically" ;).

    While a company can reduce it's profit margins to absorb some of the 20% and try to stay competitive, I fully expect the prices of many goods to go 20% up if this happens.

    You need to set some kind of deadline . Wall or no wall by a certain date . The Donald is likely going to waffle and lie as much as he can to get the political mileage he needs/wants out of this.
