What Do You Do With Kielbasa?

It was my first time cooking/eating Kielbasa tonight. The Kielbasa was part of some meat package my wife purchased. It was thawed in the fridge so I threw it on the mini. It was interesting. It was pretty plain. Better than a hot dog but not as good as a brat.

So you my question is, what do you do with a Kielbasa? Eat it like a hot dog or brat? Better to add it into dishes?

The kielbasas I've had were all more highly-seasoned than a brat; that's interesting.
I just grill them, slice into coins with a couple good mustards (I personally really like them with pinto beans too, don't know if that's traditional anywhere though).“I'll have what she's having."

Maybe the brand you have but the Polish sausage we use is anything but plain. Serve it with some Babci (good MIL) mustard, sets off a firestorm in the mouth. We like it with cabbage rolls or Rooski dumplings, once cooked slice and briefly sauté.
Like brats big difference between a real brat and Johnsonville. Those do look more like a Euro wiener.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad! -
Sauerkraut pairs really well.

I generally use it as a base for pig shots.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

Great in gumbo. But my fav is cut the casing open and cook in pan until almost done and then add to ABTs.Large and Small BGECentral, IL

My wife likes it in an egg scramble. (Bell peppers, garlic, onion, egg, hash browns, bacon, salsa)
its killer in gumbo.
Not bad in an earthy spaghetti sauce either."Brought to you by bourbon, bacon, and a series of questionable life decisions."

You are a better man than I. I had about eight really rotten answers for OP's question. Proud of myself for not weighing in.thetrim said:See the thread on the spider....
But yours was the more subtle answer -
What don't you do?

I used to steal my dad's National Lampoon mag. I was a young kid. Saw a cartoon of a nun smoking a cig in bed. Bent candle on the nightstand.
Didn't get it until a few years later.

You can boil them, pan fry them or grill them. They are marvelous served like that or as a component in a multitude of dishes. My Mom is Polish (a generation removed from the boat), so they were a staple at our house.Flint, Michigan

Diced and scrambled with eggs and cheese, or as an appetizer sliced on the bias and grilled direct, served with squares of cheddar and crackers, or grilled and in a roll with grilled peppers and onions, and mustard

Find a Polish or Ukrainian deli and try it again. I can't believe this is your first try of it, and also that you found it bland. It must have been a store brand or similar. The stuff around here has so much garlic you can taste it all day (which can be good or bad depending on your plans later). I like it uncooked with cheese and crackers or fried with eggs for breakfast. The possibilities are endless

i get it once a week in an omelet, with cheese, sauteed and raw onion. most of the time its already cooked so its good camping, fishing etc with a quick heatup. good with beans or steamed in kraut. its usually not bland. you can stuff it with cheese and wrap with bacon as well
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
I like the Hillshire farms brand. Others from the store, not so much.
-
Boil it with some good kraut and serve it with perogies. Its also good with corn fritters. And cubed up in an omelette.

Not sure why, but similar with hotdogs, I like my kielbasa blackened on the grill.Large Big Green Egg in a nest. North Shore of Boston.

Thanks guys. I've probably have had it in the past without knowing it. I've had a pig shot or two at fests before.
I'll have to try some real stuff out. This had an okay flavor but was too salty.
Thanks for all the suggestions and tips for it."The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

My wife's family is Polish. At every family get together they slice them into 2-3 inch lengths. Cook them in a roaster with an inch or 2 of water on the bottom in the oven until done. The kielbasa they get comes from a local deli and its very garlicky. It gets served alongside the ham or whatever meat they made to go with it. I just eat it plain. It has plenty of flavor on its own without adding any condiments.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------Strongsville, OhioYes. I own a blue egg!
