Big Green Egg Frozen Shut

This is my first winter with my egg. I went out last night to grill and it was frozen shut. I tried giving it a bit of force to open, but it would not budge. I did not want to force it too much as I was nervous I could damage it.

Anyone run into this or have any recommendations on how to handle? Thanks.

Start a fire in the ash clean out. It will open after a few minutes. Golf tee's work as excellent spacers to prevent from happening

You gotta use those high dollar golf tees that Double Egger uses though.

Another tip is to leave the bottom vent open before the storm. The bottom vent can easily freeze up too.

Leave a couple of icream sticks between the dome and the base.

I start a chimney with kingsford, maybe 25 briquettes and then pour them in the top. Wait 15 min or so and itll open.

I have been able to use the torch to start a fire through the bottom. It took a while, but I just aimed the flame at the bottom of the charcoal grate for a couple of minutes. Once I got a fire going I also used the torch to warm it up around the gasket (but this is probably not great for the gasket).

I use a small twig stuck in it to keep it propped open a hair. Have also slipped aluminum foil between the gaskets and it has worked.

Just light the egg as normal and the lid will open once it heats up.
