No, there's no reason to do so.LBGE (still waitin' for my free T-Shirt), DIgiQ DX2 (In Blue, cause it's the fastest), Heavy Duty Kick Ash Basket, Mc Farland, WI.
If it wasn't for my BGE I'd have no use for my backyard... -
No it's not. But you'll likely have to loosen it and reset the seal afterward. Calling @RRPSlumming it in Aiken, SC.

No, but some find it easier to apply in a uniform thickness and following the curvature of the base.

Ron's instructions are easy to follow. I've done 3 now. All have gone on the base - never tried to apply to the dome.Phoenix -

Then there is the option of not replacing the gasket. I haven't had a gasket on mine for years.

One Large has not had a gasket in over 7 years and the Mini has not had one in over 5 years. See no reason.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now).

I've probably put on 4 or 5 Rutland gaskets on the bottom only over the years. Haven't missed a meal yet, even if a little smoke leaks out here and there. Not that I've noticed that, but my motto is "If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."Judy in San Diego

Hardest thing about the process was driving to Wal-Mart to get the high temp sealer...
install is super easy and @RRP 's buying process is great..

Love my Rutland, from @RRP, installed without removing the lid, not a problem (you just have to reach back a bit).

I scraped and sanded both rims to cleanness while snug in the bands. Application is silly easy. Just do it.Best - Jack

Just finished. Was quite easy but I have quite a bit of orange gasket showing. Is that normal? Will it fade to black as I cook?

BTW glad you posted the picture as the amount of Permatex on your gasket should not a be a problem - I thought you meant excessive! -
