Man, that is one nice table right there....no doubt!! Your wife and father-in-law did a nice job on the table. Enjoy!!
Geaux Tigers!
The problem with a problem is that you don't know it's a problem until it's a problem, and that is a big problem.

Keep the comments coming... it will be great to share them with my father-in-law who is retired and tack sharp at 77!
My wife and I are heading to her parents house this Sunday to sand, stain and seal the countertop. I plan on taking multiple detailed pictures that help show how everything was constructed.
I drew up the original plans and my father-in-law took those and built the final product. I fabricated the sliding door hardware since I couldn't find any hardware of the scale I needed. I plan on showing pictures of how I did that as well.
I'll be completely refurbishing our large BGE this week. Going to do a clean burn, remove and paint all the hardware, replace screws etc. No need to replace the gasket since I'm still very pleased with Ron's Rutland gasket which shows little to no wear after 2 years!
Also will be looking for a pedestal for the BGE to sit on. Busy week!Rocky Top, TN — Large BGE • Cast Iron Grate & Platesetter • Rockwood Lump

My wife and I went out today to an antique salvage store and found the perfect pedestal for the BGE. It's a vintage bottle jack that I'll be able to adjust to the perfect height. All I need to do now is find a circular plate made out of metal, roughly the same diameter of the BGE base, and attach it.

@Tspud1... since the BGE will be nestled into the top with about a 1/2 of space between it and the table all the way around I think it should be okay. At least I hope so!

We got the table top stained and one coat of 50/50 Tung oil and Mineral Sprits done today. Really pleased with the result. Going to wait until mid-week to apply a second coat of Tung oil. Hoping to get the table transported and set up on our patio next weekend. Can't wait! After the first coat of stain.

After the 50/50 Tung oil and Mineral Spirits. Removed stain to reveal the finish color we liked.
Laid the top on just to get an idea of how it looks.

What a great find. Let's be real here though......the top will not be all you have to do. I think that you will be doing some stripping and painting as well. Looking at that table (beautiful by the way).....you will most certainly want to finish you score. A great project you have going there. Can't wait to see it all come together.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

Thanks @northGAcock! Currently don't have any plans stripping or painting any part of this table. The top was stained with oil-based deck stain with multiple coats of Tung oil. My hope is that I will only have to re-apply the Tung oil every few months to keep it looking good.northGAcock said:What a great find. Sorry for my lack of clarity....are you going to refinish the pedestal or leave as is?EggHead_Bubba said:

No worries brother... I'm not exactly sure yet. It looks pretty good just the way it is. It was a great find... I was concerned with how I was going to elevate the BGE to the right height and now I can just turn the jack and adjust it however much I need.northGAcock said:Sorry for my lack of clarity....are you going to refinish the pedestal or leave as is?Rocky Top, TN — Large BGE • Cast Iron Grate & Platesetter • Rockwood Lump

Guys... we're getting close now. Table has been transported and set up on the patio. I had to re-sand the top because the Tung Oil finish "blushed" which caused a milky/cloudy finish. Today I added two coats of finish after sanding and will probably add another coat or two depending on the weather tomorrow.
I'm currently refurbishing my Large BGE so it could be next week before I get it in its new home.
By the way, how does one remove black grease stains from the dome? I've tried Citrus degreaser, Purple Power degreaser and Simply Green with no luck.
