I'm looking to add a #10 skillet to my Griswold collection I inherited from my grandmother. Other than fleabay, does anyone know of a reputable place to purchase one?

    eBay is probably one of the cheaper places. Whenever I find them now people think they are made of gold. There's a big antique mall in Marietta that I have been to before with like 100 vendors stands inside theyhad a lot of stuff. I have also picked up some at the green bean antique store there are several north of you in Alpharetta and cumming you can try calling.

    Griswold is great stuff.  

    But the best thing about vintage cast iron is the smooth-ground interior. 

    There are a few makers from that period, so unless you specifically collect Gris, don't pass up other cookware if it is quality stuff 

    My father used to find the stuff at yardsales all the time, but like the others have said, it has taken off a bit and people apparently "know what they have". Don't seem to be deals anymore

    That is a pretty cool thing to inherit, @DoubleEgger .  Lots of history in those pans of yours.  I hope someone appreciates my collection when I kick the bucket.

    While it won't ever reach Griswold smoothness, you can work wonders on the Lodge stuff in 10 minutes with a palm sander.

    I might could find some at yard sales, but it probably would take me forever to find what I'm looking for. Plus I have some Christmas cash to blow.

    60 grit works fine.  You'll get it about 50% smoother - it will take off the "peaks".  The pad will clog frequently if it isn't stripped first.  FYI, I've been using electrolysis to strip, and it does a great job on CI. (and smokeware caps)

    What pieces are you wanting?

    Griswold is my favorite manufacturer of the old stuff.  For several reasons.  Quality of the ore, it's weight, or lack of it, and smooth finish. A notch above Wags IMO, and I see why the serious collectors feel the same.  Not sure if there is a difference in performance, but a properly seasoned Griswold skillet is a magical piece of history.  Some Wags stuff too.

    Resources are drying fast.  Just cruised fleabay, has been years since I sniped there. The prices are crazy.  You may be able to find an occasional buy it now deal, but many others are lying prone in the brush with you, patiently waiting.

    I have found some great pieces on craigslist.
    Antique shops too.

    The iron huntin' has gotten much harder, but you can still sift for some gems out there in the wild.

    I've got a #8 skillet and the #8 chicken cooker with lid. I've got several smaller unmarked skillets that are good iron as well. I've been cooking on the Griswolds for 15 years now. Looking to add some larger skillets.

    I longed for a 12 or 14 when I started out.  
    Prices were approx $200 for a 14 then.  Now the 12s are going for that.

    I bought two 15" Lodge carbon steel paella pans to fill those voids, on clearance for 30 bucks each.

    Haven't come across a 10 in the wild, let alone anything higher.  8s, 9s, all day.

    Pics are crappy, by diameter, that is an 8, not a 10.
    The #7 large logo heat rings are rare(r).  I'd pull the trigger on that if it checked out.  $30 for an 8 large logo, is closer to retail.  Still a good pan for $30

    Would really love to find a rectangular two burner #8 or 9 Griswold griddle for the cooktop.

    Also enjoy the #8 high base waffle iron if you cook with gas.  Hash browns, brownies, savory waffles, lots of fun things other than the traditional.

    passed up a Griswold bundt pan a few years and could kick myself for not buying it...

    My brother found these under the back deck at the place he use to live. Nobody wanted them. I think he looked them up on ebay, were selling for about $150.

    I think it's just called the Marietta antique mall. It's by the chicken house looking restaurant. Sorry I don't know the area well but I have been there a couple times and remember seeing some pans. Probably not cheap but you might find a nice one. Remember there's more to it than just getting a #10. I got a small logo #10 that my parents got when my grandma passed and it's heavy as crap. Still cooks great and is smooth as can be but it's twice the weight as the earlier large slant logos. I watched for deals on griswold stuff for several years and they don't really exist around here I had much better luck on eBay.
