The gift I been waiting on, finally arrived

Been scoping this site for years, everyone I work with knows all about the BGE (FROM ME).
Always had trouble pulling the trigger on buying one.
Well My wife surprised me with a large egg one night as I been working many hours + late hours, as I got home at 10pm, a few days before Christmas.
I opened the Egg salt and pepper shakers first and then the ash rake.
Then the egg sitting out back, set up waiting for my arrival.
The next thing she said was, "your cooking a turkey Christmas morning!"
Well to take the pressure off, our daughter made a ham for dinner xmas day.
But I couldn't wait and had to make a turkey reguardless.
Brined it with a few things suggested on the BGE recipe lists for 24 hours.
Ignition was painless and quite simple. maintaining the temperature was fairly easy, shot for 325.
Ranged at times from 300 to an unexpected 400 (with my digital probe).
Turkey came out 3 hours later, actually very good and flavorful.
Back to working 12hour days again, but I'm planning the next cook already.

Welcome!

  • Welcome. I got mine for Christmas a few years back.

FYI. An egg as a present will be the most personally costly present you will ever receive. And everyone around here will be happy to tell you how to spend your hard earned dollars. Good luck! (And go get a plate setter, raised grid, flame boss, pizza stone, mini max, 17 types of charcoal upon personal guarantees of different members....ahh I don't wanna spoil the whole forum for you. You'll catch up.)

  • Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you are off to a good start.

Keep working those extra hours. You will need the money for all the eggcessories we will convince you that you must have.

  • Way to dive right into the deep end. Talk about the gift that keeps on giving the whole year, a BGE beats the hell out of the Jelly of the Month Club. Congrats and happy cooking. For your next turkey I highly recommend Micky's coffee rub.
