Those are some crazy sear lines right there. What temp were you running at?

what do they offer from the regular old cast iron grate?
I see deep marks and thats it... figuring what they justify over the cast iron grate for the price. Want to find a good gift for the brother in laws egg!-FATC1TY

I like them because they leave a nice grill Mark – sear nicely and because they are not directly on the flame they seem to cook more consistently/evenly. Honestly I was a big skeptic of them but having used them now I I am a convert.BGE L, Minimax, iGrill 2, Kick Ash Basket, CGS AR, various and sundry overpriced accessories...

Far superior heat retention and uniformity. Also are reversible and virtually maintenance free. You can achieve superior searing at much lower temps. Saves fuel over time. Superior sear at lower temps will allow a wider target for achieving success.FATC1TY said:what do they offer from the regular old cast iron grate?

As moisture and grease drips into the trough, it vaporizes and comes back toward the meat and enhances the moisture. It also prevents flare ups since very little drips into the coals.
