They jumped the shark and became meaningless when they awarded one to Obama back in 2009.

So you are saying this probably degrades the accomplishment (laughing).

FWIW, The various Nobel prize awardees are selected by different committees.  The economics prize was set up by the Swedish national bank, for instance, in 1969, and is sort of an add-on to the original list. For reasons of odd history, Norwegians name the peace prize winners, Swedes the others.

Bobby's written some great stuff. Haven't bought many records since about the time of "Blood on the Tracks." "Highway 61 Revisited" & "Subterranean Homesick Blues" were a life changers.

I still remember back when I heard, "if God's on our side He'll stop the next war," sadly.

I thought that happened when they gave it to war criminal Henry Kissinger back in 1973.

Not sure why everybody is so testy on the forum lately.  to my knowledge, Obama never won the Nobel Prize for Literature, so feel free to upgrade your attention level on this without softening your stance on Obama or Norwegians or whatever.

he didn't get the peace prize - that went to the guy who made the peace deal with the rebels.  oh wait the peace deal got rejected.  hey, we all get awards these days for trying, right?  (obama got his a few months into his presidency - before he had even started trying!)

No, I think that was a different category, That was a participation award. He got most enthusiastic for his slogan, "Hope", Right?

Why do you say that? He was president for an entire 11 days when they nominated him.

Because he had done absolutely nothing to merit the award other than win a media fueled popularity contest.
And hindsight shows this country is definitely a much more peaceful and loving place since he became president......said no one....ever.

Sorry, I know that posting on a forum does not show "tone." I was being facetious.
On another Nobel prize, in an interview with one that voted to give the inventor of the internet a Nobel, he admitted that he and some others only voted to give it to Gore as a slap at G.W.

I was thinking about this last night. Not sure of the Nobel awards criteria...but assume the person has to be alive. How great is it that as a poet, you get your due recognition while you are here to accept it while still touring (catching him here in Columbia next month) and yet be humble. Good stuff right here.

It matters not to me, how the award is decided, or who it it is bestowed upon. It is an honor not to be dismissed by anyone. This signifies you have done something of value for all mankind. It is good stuff, and it is a great honor to receive it while alive.

Bad news, bad news come to me where I sleep, turn turn turn again, yonder standing next to me in this lonesome crowd, stands a man who swears he ain't to blame, darkness the break of noon, shadows even the silver spoon, the handmade blade, the child's balloon, eclipses both the sun and moon, put in a prison cell, but one time he could-a been the champion of the world, my existence led by confusion boats mutiny from stern to bow
ah, but I was so much older then i'm younger than that now, it's a hard, it's a hard rain is gonna fall.

Just off the top of my head. Covered by the Dead, The Band, Burritos, The Byrds, CSNY, Fairport Convention, Hendrix, Joan Baez, Steeleye Span and hundreds more. Long, long overdue I say
