My New Thermoworks Smoke arrived!!

My new Thermoworks Wireless remote thermometer arrived early! Just opened the box. I'll be playing with it all night long. So far it's been easy to figure out and the range has been good.

They said it wouldn't ship until the 20th?!  I assume you ordered on opening day?  I'll definitely go pick up the mail tomorrow.

  • I'll have to measure the distance, but it's out in the backyard corner with the smoker. I'm in my room on the front of the house opposite side of the smoker. I'm in a solid log house. And it's still got a signal. Perfect for watching games and the smoker!

I thought that too. Came home from work and there it was! I did order from their first email about the pre-order. So glad I did.

That is exactly the reason for my question. Thank you for the response. My Beautiful Wife and I have downsized and I think from the front of my house, to the BGEs is less than 100 ft. I will hopefully be getting one.

I have absolutely no need for one but now I want one.
Just bought an Egg?  Here is what you get to look forward to now:

Plate Setter, FlameBoss 200, Spider, PSWOO-CI, Additional Rig Shelf for dome cooking, Thermapen, iGrill2, Cast Iron, Blackstone, Cooking Accessories for the Blackstone, Cover for the Egg and the Blackstone, shopping for Rub like a fine wine or IPA, and a new fascination with lump and what brand is the best-all to be debated every Friday Night.  Next desires-Joetisceriie, Adjustable Rig, Grillmates, table and more eggs

Right now it's probably less than 100' but considering it went through walls, log home cabin, with several other wireless devices running I'm pretty impressed so far. My other wireless thermometers tend to drop signal in the house. So this is perfect for my needs. I'll have to try further once I start using it.

It is nice that if you cook by the dome temp, just remove the temp gauge and insert the air probe. I do this with my Stoker. This looks to be another great product from Thermoworks. And with the WiFi bridge coming out next year it only adds to the arsenal.

  • Looking forward to un-boxing mine. Looks like the normal high quality level that has made Thermoworks known. Love those Jelly Bellys too.   ;)

    Looks great...
Is there any kind of signal strength indicator on the unit? Thanks

@BigEggDaddy could you check to see if the air probe fits through the BGE temp gauge hole? My Maverick probe won't. Really wish it would. It would be so much more convenient!

@houstonegger the last update isn't the problem most likely.....iGrill changed apps.   the new app to connect with is Weber iGrill.  I went through many nights of frustration before stumbling on the fact they changed......

Does this do much more than a FB200 without the fan hooked up would do?

@coomdaddy I was thinking the same thing, and I can't see how it would.  And the FB200 has the internet connection, so you do not have to be within a certain distance of the unit to know what is going on. The one thing I do not like about the FB200 communication, is that I always have to refresh the web page to see what is going on if I am curious and want to check in on what is happening.  Nott a huge deal and just another pathetic sign of how impatient many have gotten with getting instant info.  Oh what in the world did I/we all do before the internet and Wifi?????

Looks cool, but my current cheap one works and I am waiting and hoping my MEATER gets to me by Christmas.  Based on the last email from them they will ship in Nov and the Blocks in Dec.  I would think if Thermoworks is making it, it should be pretty good.

With the FB200 you are dead in the water as far as reading any info remotely on a mobile device if you no not have an internet signal.
Thermoworks Smoke works independently anywhere and everywhere as long as the base and receiver are in signal range of each other.

Not really and the FB is not much more expensive.

I got one last week that said the bench test has pushed it back a month again.  Will see if ever get them it or not.  It would be nice to get it by Christmas like I said above.  I just hope all the waiting has helped get the bugs out of a new product.  I am on email #34 for updates.  I just got this one a couple days ago.

"We are currently working to have a handful of test units at the end of the week to send out to our UK and US engineering teams for testing. If these upcoming units pass our inspection, we'll be releasing more from this batch as beta units. Teemu has an extended stay in Taiwan so that he can personally oversee production and resolve any further issues. If all goes according to plan without any issues within the test batch, we are estimating the first shipment of MEATER for our backers as early as November and our goal to have the bulk of mass produced units shipping in December. Once we've begun mass producing MEATER probes, we will shift our focus to MEATER Block. With supply chain and probe production already established, it should be a very smooth transition to full production. As soon as we have shipping estimates for MEATER Block, we will send out an update at that time.

We've gotten initial feedback from our beta testing program! It’s very exciting as we're getting MEATER into the hands and grills of actual backers and not just the team that's behind the creative process. We're taking notes and modifying the app to make the MEATER experience more intuitive, user-friendly, and overall a more enjoyable cook. These adjustments so far include the minutest details in the software interface/layout, ease of instructions, streamlining the app usability, and various debugged items. Our iOS beta testers have been cooking with MEATER and the native Android app is just around the corner. We're looking to launch the iOS version of the MEATER app in stores in late October, and the Android version released a week after that."

I did a kickstarter once for the pebble watch. First products are a serious crap shoot. That was a disaster as the newer ones are much better, but it made me never want to be on the ground floor like that again.

Keep the faith! It does appear that Meater is finally getting very close to having deliverable product.

I've never had a Kickstarter project deliver on time. I've also never had one that didn't eventually deliver.

My Misen knife is actually being delivered tomorrow! And, it looks like the Fireboard remote thermometer project may actually be the first project I've ever participated in that not only may deliver on time but even a couple months early. Fingers crossed! :)

I'll check when I get home, haven't had a chance to try it in the egg yet. Day job is getting in the way of my play time! Stay tuned..

Sweet!  A Black and Blue will be on the doorstep soon.

The Misen wiil be an absolute beast in the mobile kitchen tote knife roll.  Between that, and two Anova SVs, batting 2 for 2 on KS.

Wasn't feeling the Meater at all.

$200 for the Fireboard is pretty steep for a pit monitor on your phone.  You're not far off from a full blown ATC(FB200 wifi) at that point.

True, but 6 probes, data logging, WiFi and Bluetooth, internal battery, and a multi-use port that will allow some other potential options including running a blower fan.

I already have a couple of pit controllers and was mainly interested in the 6 probe simultaneous data logging for a couple other projects.

I also can't wait to say "Alexa, how's my meat?" :)

  • @Ladeback69  So far, the only KickStarter program that I've actually received has been the Carson Rodizio. I love my Rodizios, but makes me wonder and skeptical if any of the other programs are legit.
