Crawfish

Has anyone made crawfish on the BGE? Seems like every food under the sun can be made on the BGE, which is absolutely incredible! If so, any tips?

@Derek1234 The search navigation in the forum isn't very good but if use Yahoo or Google and type the word "crawfish" and followed by "egghead forum" you will get posts of crawfish cooks on the forum. Hope that helps.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey.  Very versatile machine as you have concluded.  Sorry, no help with the crawfish but I will throw a nod to @SGH and @nolaegghead here who should be able to provide more info than you can use.

  • Use a dutch oven. It works great!
  • I would put the pot direct or directly on the indirect stone. Leave the lid off so you get some smoke into the water (and/or put ice on a rack above it so as it melts it drops into the water so you get more smoke. Past that it's just a matter of boiling. My biggest concern would be timing. It going to take longer to recover than a propane burner so your timing will be messed up.

Are you asking about grilling or smoking them or using the BGE to boil a pot?

I guess I didn't have a particular cook in mind; just wondering if anyone has tried it. I have some crawfish in the freezer, so I thought I would ask if it is a possibility to cook on the LBGE. Thanks!

I'm sure you could cook with crawfish on the egg, but I see where the egg would contribute anything to such a cook.  You could add them to a lasagna or enchiladas or something like that which you would normally cook in an oven.

I have cleaned the tails and skewered the meat. Grilled it raised direct while basting with butter. It's a pain in the a$$ picking the tails, but the meat turned out incredible. I have a Cajun buddy that uses a big homemade basket to put live crawfish in and then grills them on a large open face grill. He swears that they turn out great. The basket is for ease of handling. It would be a real pain placing and removing individual crawfish one at a time. You would certainly be limited on the amount you could do at a time on a BGE. But it no doubt could be done in small batches. Again, the tails that I picked and skewered turned out great.
