Rain

While I've cooked in the rain before, I've never tried to start the egg while there is a very light rain falling. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I'm going to do a Ribeye direct, maybe some Japanese Eggplant, but the rain has me antsy about starting the coals. I'll be using BGE Charcoal and Stumpchunks to get things started.

You should be OK in a light rain. If the rain picks up, close the dome, remove the cap & leave the bottom vent open. Then replace the cap & start dialing things in as you approach your target temp. It make take a little longer to get "clean" smoke if you close the dome earlier than usual.

I've never had rain significantly affect a cook, other than me delaying going outside to check the temps.

The last butt i did i swear almost turned into some sort of tornado funnel. The positioning of the butt and platesetter must of caused a vortex effect because the smoke was spiraling out of control, had never seen that happen before on a cook out of the dome.BikerBob said:Let's do a Hermine cook Friday.Austin, Tx -
I took delivery of a Smokeware cap mid-june, mainly to keep cooking through the rain.
It hasn't rained here since, and homes are burning up.

It's just rain. It's not gonna melt. Fire it up and cook that thing

I use the paper towel soaked in olive oil. Light it, close the dome with bottom and top wide open. No problem.

I lite up in a light rain with a MAPP torch and it starts OK. Dome closed and bald when it catches. It lites up quickly with the torch so the lump, except for the surface, is still mostly dry. I don't know about a downpour...L BGE, XL appetite

I use an old coffee can with some holes in the sides. Put over DFMT and just let the egg do its thing.
