Tried Caveman this weekend and got a question.
Why did my lump stick to the steak? I think the coals needed to be hotter.
Only other problem I left it on too long, seems to get to temp quicker than I expected. Will try again, but might so SV and 1 min each side. Love some feedback

The only time I have done caveman style I had the coals white hot and there was a good layer of ash on them. This prevented any lump from sticking to the meat. I did knock the meat against the side to knock off any loose ash between flips.
Others have done this style more and hopefully they will chime in.Medium BGE , iGrill2

Doneness would've been perfect for me - nice medium pink juicy beef!“There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.”

I often eat like a caveman, but after watching this video I have no desire to cook like one. A low setting cast iron grid just makes much more sense to me.

I'm not sure why your charcoal stuck so much. I like to do my cook when the coals are orange hot - before they get white and ashy. With too much ash, some of it gets on your meat. When I flip my steaks it's common to see one or two pieces (although sometimes none) of coal stuck to the meat, but that's not a problem.
More pepper/rub/crust may have helped as well.
I'm not sure if that helps or not.XXL BGE, Karebecue, Klose BYC, Chargiller Akorn Kamado, Weber Smokey Mountain, Grand Turbo gasser, Weber Smoky Joe, and the wheelbarrow that my grandfather used to cook steaks from his cattle

Coals weren't hot enough. Needs be 100% glowing red

He doesn't know Shlt, but got lucky on this one. It also helps to have larger lump on top. The small stuff is more clingy.DoubleEgger said:Coals weren't hot enough. Needs be 100% glowing redSandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga -
