Does burned food give you cancer?

Early warnings about PAHs date from maybe the mid 80s. Subsequent studies indicated that they formed at temps higher than average BBQ, and moreover, they were not as strongly associated w. cancer as the fats that were cooked out of the meats.
A lot of the things that are reported as carcinogenic are indeed, but they are so mildly carcinogenic that strict avoidance is not necessary.
There's a very old sayings, the dose makes the poison. For a few things, like radioactive polonium, it takes very little. Water takes gallons.

I've read studies that showed a skyrocketing of cancer and heart disease in Japan that paralleled the spread of american fast food, but this is the first time I've heard about a link to smoked fish. Very interesting.rmr62 said:In Japan, they have historically had very high rates of stomach cancer relative to the rest of the world. Many years ago when reading on this, they were linking it to smoked fish---they evidently had some process for smoking and as a population ate WAY more than most do. Now, I haven't gone back and looked at data since then, but it would seem that there may be other compounds that could have similar effects, but likely would also require ingesting large quantities, etc."Dumplings are just noodles that have already eaten" - Jon Kung

There's a jump in all the typical big American diseases associated with the spread of our eating habits around the world. Any/everything we eat is ok by itself in moderation but that's not how we roll; our claim to fame is gorging ourselves on giant portions of meat, dairy, highly processed/de-nutrified grains & of course sugar laden food & drinks which taken together undeniably results in increased levels of obesity, diabetes, heart disease & cancer.
We lost any semblance of moderation somewhere around the 1980's and that really ramped up the disease factor. I think it had a lot to do with the supersize craze, as restaurants began a race to one up the competition we all just ate along for the ride. The typical plate of food today is just silly & it shows in the gargantuan size of so many people. This ain't rocket surgery to figure out here.To the original posters point, if for whatever reason you enjoy burnt food it's probably ok now & then; pack your neck with it 7 days a week & you're probably gonna have some problems but as everyone else has said, that goes for just about anything.
America, teaching the world to eat like sh!t since 19??.
