They are putting a positive spin on using cast iron instead of ceramic.  I would not want to accidentally touch one after cooking some pizzas at 1000 degrees for a couple of hours.

Good thing ceramics never crack at high temps.

Yes but I have read many times you shouldn't run cast iron skillets over 500 or you can warp and crack them. Sounds like they chose about the worst material possible. Really heavy, gets really hot, not good to stay outside, can still crack, and more expensive

    From the manufacturer.
"As to the warranty, there is a lifetime warranty on all cast iron components; 5yr on all non-cast iron metal components; and 1yr on the temperature gauge and sealing gaskets."
They come assembled and ready to cook on.

Have emailed back and forth with George Boyd at Golden a few times. He really seems like a great guy. I hope he does well.

Kamado Joe is developing cast iron fireboxes for their Classic and Big Joes at the moment. They are doing that due to the ceramic ones cracking so often which means many warranty replacements which means hassles/expense for them and hassles for their users.

They have gone thru a few prototypes and it looks like an interesting project. I doubt that they would be doing this if the cast iron fireboxes were just as prone to cracking as the ceramic ones.

I haven't heard much about that project lately so maybe it's turning out that the cast iron fireboxes are cracking more often than they would like. I would be surprised to hear that they are tho. After all, lots of items that are exposed to high temps are made from cast iron. How often do cast iron wood stoves or furnaces crack?

@Lit agree on the lifetime warranty logistics. That said they have brought a good product to the table and jobs to their community. Why not embrace this  I wish them all much success. :peace:
I have enough Komado style cookers or I'd consider one myself. My next cooker will likely be a vertical (possibly  by Pitmaker). But, I won't add anything else until I have an ODK structure.

Fellows I ain't going to lie. I like it. But I am a sucker for just about any grill or smoker. The one thing that I did really like was that logo right on the front for all to see that said: "Made in America". That will get my attention and respect every time.
