Ordering a Wok for my LBGE do I need a spider?

I have a large BGE.   I am looking to purchase a 16" wok from probably the wok shop or CGS.   I have the PSWoo -CI.   So the questions is do any of you use a wok on the woo? Or is the spider the best way to go ?   Thanks in advance !

    They are quite popular, but you can just buy a wok ring for a few bucks and accomplish the same thing if you want to save a few. Nothing against the spider btw, great product.

    Interesting, did not think of that, so just place the wok ring on the coals and then you are good?   Was also thinking about a wok, possibly for the MinMax and of course here in Canada not cheap for the spider.

    I just leave the cooling grid in place and then the wok ring. Fill the coals up as needed. Getting the wok hot is not n issue.

    I thought the spider was the little "basket type" of spatula... It's handy but not required.  If you've got the woo ring, you probably don't need a wok stand... Or maybe I have this all wrong?

    Either way, best of LUCK!!!

    I rarely use my egg for wok cooks, but when I did, I just set the wok directly on the coals. And I have a spider!

    I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

    Doesn't the wok ring have the potential to melt because it's aluminum and not stainless steel?

    Aluminum melts at just over 1200. It's possible, but I haven't had an issue. I will definitely keep an eye out though. I place it on the cooking grid a few inches from the lump. Sounds like the spider or a SS ring is your best option. People put aluminum foil on the PS all the time though??

    Just a word of caution - if you have an older BGE you need to specify the 5 legged spider which Tom also sells. You could make due with a newer one, but that means it will sit proud higher up. BTW I have also used my spider to cradle a shallow drip pan which thereby rests just under the cooking grate.

    Great comments on the Large Spider, thanks all.  Couple other things.

    The PSWoo-CI can hold a wok but we don't really recommend it as the wok's handle can get stuck in the Woo's upper ring if moving the wok around a lot.

    The spider can hold a wok two ways: up, which raises the wok near the felt line or down which puts it right above the lump. most folks prefer up.

    the spider does other things too
    - spider down with 13" round stone for big cooks on the adjustable rig;
    - spider down with 15" half stone for direct/indirect set-up with grid on the fire ring;
    -spider down with 13" cast iron grid to sear near the lump
    -spider up with 18 large cast iron grid, raise the grid for easier access using turners and such on burgers
    -spider on table to hold a hot stone or platesetter up and off the table.

    hope this helps.

    I would go for the Spider.  You won't regret it because it just makes woking a lot easier.  I stir-wok with it down near the coals, but up for frying.

    Yeah. First time I heard about a PSWoo2 I thought what the hell is that and when I checked it out I then thought who the hell came up with that name and what does it mean. One day I will buy one.

    Does Dixon's BBQ center carry the spider product line?   That might be someone north of the boarder that could be a source.
