I got my mini two weeks ago. It's great! I got the carrier so that its easy to move. The Mini-Max can do bigger cooks but is about as portable as the small; meaning not portable without 2 people. The Mini in the carrier can be transported and then carried by one person with ease. It get up to high temperatures in no time. Using a fire starter its ready to go in less than 15 minutes. Using a chimney stove that time is cut in half. The amount of lump that is needed is very small. Cooking a steak, burger, sausage, etc... will only use a few ounces of lump. The Mini is by fay the best Egg for small cooks. It does everything the larger Eggs do without burning a bunch of charcoal.
As for the price, that really depends on your dealer. List price is in the $399 range. Add the carrier and the plate setter and it will be close to $499. I was fortunate enough to get a $500 gift certificate for $250. My total cost for the Mini was under $300 which included tax and shipping. I had it shipped from the distributor to my apartment via truck on a pallet. Yes, an Egg can be shipped without voiding the warranty.

The carrier is about $69. It makes moving the little Egg easy for one person. I think BGE will keep the Mini around as its a very portable Egg and can cook just as well as the larger ones. Steaks cook in 2-3 minutes, but only 2 at a time.

@DuckDogDr Where are you located? I'm thinking about selling an extra mini I have. I'm in Minnesota so chances are slim"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

dude they suck particularly for your purposes of weekend trips; your lack of interest in the minimax due to weight equally applies to the mini, while it's not all that heavy it's clumsy & so damn tiny it's really not all that effective. There's also the fragility of ceramic that comes into play when you're taking it out on the road. Save yourself multiple hundreds of dollars & pick up a smoky joe for twenty nine bucks, nearly twice the grid space as the mini, 10x easier to clean & if it should fall out of the back of your pick up truck or slip from your grip while setting up camp it'll just bounce & be ready to go...DuckDogDr said:seriously considering one for all my weekend trips..

I bought my mini for $250 used and added the carrier after that. I use it at least once a week - even if just for weekend lunches. It's a terrific searing machine - not 100% sold on doing a low and slow on it, the lump would probably only last 3-4 hours anyways. But for camping and overnight trips, it's a great tool.Formerly of Houston, TX - Now Located in Bastrop, TX
I work in the 'que business now (since 2017)
6 Eggs: (1) XL, (2) Large, (1) Small, (1) Minimax & (1) Mini - Egging since 2007
Also recently gained: (1) Gas Thing (came with the house), (1) 36" Blackstone Griddle & (1) Pitts & Spitts Pellet Smoker -
i use a mini regularly (its actually a vision kub mini knockoff)
trips though, im with zippy on this, get a cheap kettle style grill, something big enough to actually fit the fish, something that can roll around in the back of the truck, no worries about theft. if im flying i just buy a cheap grill when i get there and when i leave it stays
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
I love my Mini. I knew I had to have one when I saw a carrier. I found I use it much more than my Large.
I just took it with me on vacation at the lake last weekend. Just to be safe I wrap it in a moving blanket and off I go.Glencoe, Minnesota -
I have done a 6lb shoulder in my mini it went 8 hours between 250-300 and had lump left over.HoustonEgger said:I bought my mini for $250 used and added the carrier after that. My buddy @Dyal_SC can roll you out pictures all day long.....in reality, there is no bad egg in this bunch.

I've heard it's a toy. But you can't always believe what you hear. I love mine for so many reasons. If the MM is out then definitely get the mini and a carrier. Thank me later.

I took the mini to a 4th of July picnic. I stacked 2 grills and was able to cook roughly 45 ABT's in two batches. Had the mini going for just over 6 hours at 270-280* and had enough lump left over that I could have gone 4-5 more hours. I have about 7 cooks on it and decided to clean the ashes. Cleaning it was a breeze as the fire ring and fire box are easily removed.
If traveling with it, I would use some foam padding to avoid breakage. Mine was delivered via tractor-trailer on a pallet. The only padding on the ceramics was that thin 1/16" white foam.

I have taken them set in the back of a pickup truck, back of an Expedition, back of a jeep Liberty and in a basement hatch of my Motor Home, do nothing special no cardboard or towels have even had used lump from the last cook I do strap them in so they can't fall over. Have been taking BGE on the road for 9 years and no problem, have traveled with the following sizes, LG, Medium, Small, Mini and Mini Max.DuckDogDr said:So those of y'all that travel with them... Agree with this I have taken my mini and small a lot of places with just putting it in the trunk of my Honda Accord and that's it. It stayed in the trunk of my car for several weeks once cause I was too lazy to take it out and no issues.Jupiter Jim said:

I have to agree I would at least try a smokey joe first. You can use lump in it. If it doesn't work out you are out $29. Or spend $59 and get the jumbo joe that has the real estate of a large and you can carry in one hand.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Forgot i left my Minimax in the trunk the other day and i heard it rolling around when i swerved on a curve. Luckily nothing happened to any of the ceramics. It was almost completely upside down when i checked on it. Had to deal with an ashy mess.Austin, Tx

The mini isn't a bad little grill but way overpriced in my opinion for what you get. I use my Weber Jumbo Joe 9 times out of 10 over the mini/small when tailgating. Big Green Eggs work too good that it becomes a disadvantage when tailgating. They stay hot for hours after you snuff the fire out. Who wants to wait for a grill to cool down? (Yes there are ways to get the egg cooled down quicker but it becomes more of a hassle than what it's worth. Again, just my opinion) Ceramic grills just aren't really intended to be moved and bounced around in transport. (I probably pack my large and transport 5-6 times a year but special attention is required. The Jumbo Joe gets tossed in the back of my truck weekly in summer with little to no attention. Always rolling around in the bed of the truck. No reason to worry about a cheap grill.) I've tried several times with my small and mini tailgating after softball games but just wasn't worth it in the end. The Weber Jumbo Joe hardly weighs anything and coals can be dumped one handedly. Once the coals are dumped you can pack it away 5 minutes later. Best yet I'm only out $50 if someone walks away with it in the back of my truck. Once at home my eggs get used 9 times out of 10 over my Weber Jumbo Joe. Each grill has their place.
I'm not saying don't buy one but I wouldn't consider it the most friendly portable/tailgating grill."The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

I was worried about this heat issue the other night. I did a little cookout and someone asked, "are you going to wait a few hours to cool that down".
Answer is no if you have this little carrier. 30 minutes after being in 400 degree range I grabbed my gloves and set it in this cooler. Towel on bottom and towel on top, done got it home no issues. Yes it's warm, but overall the issue can be avoided.
btw turned out 30 hotdogs very quickly for kids cookout.

Minis are cool, I have a MM. I love the MM. W have taken it tailgating, and camping. actually took it to a local party recently where I know for a fact 2 more were bought the next day. Either way, you will be pleased with your purchase. I like the MM because I can easily cook for 3-4 no issues, and it is a perfect compliment to the XL."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Cooling off the mini is not a big deal. Shut the bottom vent and put the cap on. That kills the fire. By the time I finish eating the lump is out and ceramics are cooling. The key in my opinion is to make sure there are no hot coals.
