Stop watering?
At what point does you officially give up on a sapling? I planted 16 or so last year. Some were dug out of a neighbors yard...rest were from Arbor Day. Gophers took out several of them. Had a poly line running to all of them...but 2 of our dogs decided to have a tug of war with it. Couple that with damn every thing that could go wrong doing so and watering these things was put on the back burner. Several of the ones that the gophers didn't kill were hanging in there with no water. The other ones have no leaves...while the tips of the branches are brital one you move in some they are still flexible. Should I continue to water them or?

I had a weeping cherry like that, no leaves, looked dead. I decided to keep at it when I clicked off a couple branches like you said and they were green inside. It took 2 years of patience, and it still looks like a Charlie Brown tree, but it's alive and looking better every year. What I do when I'm black out drunk is none of my business...

Nah. You can absolutely use twigs to smoke with. Ignore all admonitions re bark.dougcrann said:

Patio here usually has some oak twigs dropping from the tree overhead. The only thing on our property is Ponderosa Pine...and one Cottonwood. I planted several Red Maples. All but 2 are very very small. The other 2 have finally hit waste high. Planted 6 oaks...the gophers took out 4. Will be decades before any of what I planted is firewood lol...Darby_Crenshaw said:

Sounds like you need to go with either pouring concrete or plastic christmas trees.
