Beans...smoke?

It is rib day. Ribs will be done in the Reverse Flow. Going to make some beans in a skillet in the Large Egg. I just got my AR setup...can't seem to stop throwing some pecan chunks on the fire...well sometimes it is hickory...or apple...or even cherry. Focus Doug...anyways...you folks throw any chunks in your Eggs while cooking beans?
Going to be a multiple cooker day...Ribs on the Reverse Flow, beans in the Large...cornbread and a cinnamon swirl cake in the medium...
No wonder I am fat....lol...
Almost forgot...if you do add smoke...which one?
Thanks in advance...

Only done beans once but yes absolutely add some smoke. I used cherry because it's what I had but I would think you could throw in just about anything.

Yes, it works well. Whatever wood matches or is complementary to the meat you're cooking and the beans, eg I wouldn't use oak or mesquite with sweet baked beans and I wouldn't use apple or peach with borracho beans.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

Only recall doing beans on the egg once. Not for me. They were okay, but not as good as stovetop. Especially the next day! Same with chili, soup and stew. Just not a fan of smoke for those. To each his own, of course.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Beans...smoke? YES. Any type is good.LBGE (still waitin' for my free T-Shirt), DIgiQ DX2 (In Blue, cause it's the fastest), Heavy Duty Kick Ash Basket, Mc Farland, WI.

If it wasn't for my BGE I'd have no use for my backyard... -
This ^^^^^^^^ is good and proper. I wear my fat like a badge of honor.dougcrann said:No wonder I am fat....
Sounds like a interesting cook. Look forward to seeing it. On a seperate note, I do all beans in the pressure cooker. Just makes life easy my friend.Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

Well...so much for those plans. Wife walked out to the end of the driveway to get the paper. Walked down the fence before coming back in. Daisy, our Blue Nose Pitbull was acting strange...even for her. She looked up at me, eyes were bloodshot, starting to swell. Head was EXTREMELY swollen. Spots started appealing on her belly...into the truck and away they went to the emergency Vet clinic in Spokane...an hour away. They gave Daisy a steroid shot and an antihistamine. And told Ernestina to get comfortable...they want to keep an eye on Daisy for an hour or so...

Oh no! I was going to comment on the beans, until I saw about your dog. :-( Are they prone to bloat?
Please keep us posted. I'm sending happy vibes your way, hoping she feels better quickly! -
Oops, when I read more carefully I see it was her head that was swollen, not her belly.
I still hope she feels better soon, and that you guys can figure out what caused the reaction.

I had a springer spaniel that was allergic to bee stings. Took us 2 times to figure it out.LBGE (still waitin' for my free T-Shirt), DIgiQ DX2 (In Blue, cause it's the fastest), Heavy Duty Kick Ash Basket, Mc Farland, WI.

Vet gave her a steroid shot and some benadryl. We need to give her Benadryl tomorrow. They had Ernie hang around, for a while after the shot. Ernie didn't see what stung her. Ernie said that Daisy had dove into the fence where some weeds were growing...questing it was something in the weeds.
Daisy loves to roll thru the weeds. She crawls under the table that the Eggs are on as well as she likes crawling around under our trucks.
Vet told Ernie that bringing Daisy in was a good idea...has had more than one client lose a pet from swelling due to an allergic reaction. She suggested that we keep benadryl on hand. I know that Pitbulls are prone to allergies, we will be keeping a close eye on her this summer. Daisy has bonded with Ernestina like no dog I have ever seen. When we go to bed Daisy will climb up in Ernies chair, roll herself up into Ernies blanket and sleep there all night. 7 in the morning Daisy will climb out of the chair and go check on Ernie while she is sleeping. Not uncommon for Daisy to sit there, watching....waiting for Ernestina to wake up. -
How is Miss Daisy doing today?
