Better ask the buckeye what you are allowed to do with it once it's yours. He seems to have strong opinions on the matter.jeponline said:I'm still holding out hope that he calls, because I'll take it. Finally have wife approval to buy an egg.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX -

I looked at the online video about assembling a BGE cypress table. The table top for a large is 60" long, which is plenty wide for both a medium and a large.
BUT
The precut hole in a large table looks to come nearly to the middle of the table top. You probably can make a medium fit, but they will end up close together.
From the old BGE table plans (before they started selling tables themselves), the medium hole needs to be 18", while the large is 21". You should be able to leave 10" or more between the egg holes and still avoid the legs at the other end.
You will need to make 2 adjustments (plus create a new hole for the med!), neither one is very hard.
(1) the top does not have any struts under it. When you cut a second hole you will have to put a strut of some sort under the table top piece between the 2 eggs. A 2x4 will be more than sufficient.
(2) you will have to put something under the table nest for the medium to raise the egg. The old BGE plans for the large egg says the bottom shelf needs to be 15" below the top of the table, while the medium's bottom shelf needs to be 13" below the top. You will have to use something to raise the table nest up 2", or alternatively forget the next and use something like 4" of fireproof pavers (chimney liners) under the medium egg. Thanks for the info.
I have a table for my medium now, but I would just take the granite out of it, throw the table out, put my medium back in the nest and figure out a way to inset the granite block into the cedar for the large.
I'm not very handy, but I know a couple of cabinet makers who are.
The table for my medium was made with a marine grade plywood top. The rest of it was made w/ scraps from a deck I had built at my old house.
