AR???

Ok so I went to the Ceramic Grill Store to look at purchasing a AR. When I click on the large adjustable rig there are so many options that it really gets confusing. So was reaching out for some help here as to what are really necessary to have with a AR? Sorry if this question has been asked before but I did a search and really never came up with an answer. Thanks in advance.

I don't have one yet, but if you call the store, Tom will make sure you have the set-up right for you. Promise!

I have the oval AR combo. That works best for me because I take advantage of the oval ceramic stone's length when I do ribs. I want to purchase the spider and 13" stone too, since I see situations where I'd use that, like using a wok, CI griddle for searing, etc.
Basically it comes down to what type of cooking you're likely to do more of. I like the extra capacity for lump you get with the oval combo when doing low & slow~ John - Formerly known as ColtsFan - https://www.instagram.com/hoosier_egger

Yeah, I was in the same boat. As much as they try to explain it on the website, it's still confusing. I think I got the R&B combo, covers my needs and I never use the slider (I always forget I have it).
I do still use my old platesetter for certain cooks though. I'm probably 60% AR, and 40% platesetter.
Also, do a search on this forum. This question has been asked dozens of times. You'll find a lot of good info and opinions to sift through.

I checked out the website hoping to find AR15's. I could find those either.Dave - Austin, TX

+1 on give them a call. Tell them about all the types of cooks you do and they will give good advice. If you are not quite sure about one or so extra parts, I would buy to save shipping later. Tom or the nice lady that helped me will get you setup and not oversell.A poor widows son.

I watched the videos on their site and was able to figure out what I wanted. Well, at least what I wanted first.

You are correct my friend. Until you actually have one in hand to look at, it seems real confusing. However I will offer this. If your main forte is cooking Q (meat) the AR R&B combo is the most practical. The oval stone provides more indirect cooking area length wise. This is very useful when cooking ribs, briskets or any long cuts. It also comes in handy when using long skewers or doing a ton of chicken wings at a time. I have both the oval stone as well as the round stone with the spider. I do like and use both for different things. However for general Q cooking, the oval is usually the one used.Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

The greatest barrier against all wisdom, the stronghold against knowledge itself, is the single thought, in ones mind, that they already have it all figured out. -
Can't express how great the AR is. I personally got the R&B combo with extra extender rack and extra set of braces. I can cook around 180 cut chicken wings using 3 levels, can cook 4-6 full racks of ribs uncut, and can cook a full packer brisket with minimal overhang to direct heat. Best purchase I've made for the Egg. I 2nd the advice to call Tom. Very helpful and will only sell you what you need. Great guy to deal with.Athens, GA

+1 to what @mayberry said. i think I have the same setup, and LOVE it. Very versatile, and i have been able to adapt it to all kinds of egging needs.
Call Tom. He has a proven reputation for not upselling his products. If he says you probably don't need something for the cooks you have in mind, he will tell you. If you find out later that you want some additional parts, shipping is not that bad. Plus it gives your family something useful to buy you for xmas/father's day/birthday/anniversary/etc.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -

He is a good man, and helps eggers everywhere. I have two family members who just bought big green eggs and their next toys will be coming from CGS! -
I just clicked on this thinking it was a thread about curious pirates.

All you need to know is you need it all...maybe not right now but eventually you'll want everything.
My first purchase from there was the large Adjustable Rig R & B Oval Combo it's a good place to start if you don't feel the need to go all out. Great for long cuts of meat like ribs and can still be used for pretty much anything indirect. At the time I didn't have a plate setter so this was perfect combo for me for the price.
Few months later I bought the Large Adjustable Rig Extender w Crossbar & 16" Sliding D Grid Combo great for pushing the grid out of the way to get to the bottom I believe it's the same setup in the chicken and ribs video they have posted. Just read the site carefully watch the videos posted and I'm sure you can put together something that works for you.

The foil ring is surprisingly a good item to own although I don't remember paying that price for it.
