Super Nachos in a Lodge CI Skillet
THEBuckeye
Posts: 4,232
Planning a multi-layer super nacho cook. Ground Beef, Beans, Vidalia Onion, Tortillas, Jack and Queso Cheese, Jalepenos, topped with Green Onion, Guac, Pico and Cilantro.
Plan to brown beef w/ onion and beans then layer chips, mixture and cheese in the CI Skillet.
I'm thinking indirect at 350 for 3-5 minutes until cheese melted.
Given such a short time on the egg can I just go direct? 350 Make sense? 400 Better?

I've got a 14" aluminum pizza pan I go indirect with...that temp or so until the cheese melts...if you make some with chicken you've egged you'll know they didn't come from an oven....LBGE Katy (Houston) TX

With the short time and being in the skillet, I don't think that direct or indirect matters too much. Nor would I think that the temp is going too much either between 350-400. There is a video on the BGE Favebook site that has a guy making them on a MM and I think he went direct. But the video wouldn't load for me just now, so I'm not certain.Las Vegas, NV

Please, please, please post photos both before and after. I really want to try this as well and will need all the help I can get.

Just my $.02 but I think I would still go indirect. Otherwise the 'chos might burn on the bottom before the cheese is good and melty.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I agree, indirect. All bubble yum yum--no charColumbus, Ohio--A Gasser filled with Matchlight and an Ugly Drum.

I'm with @hub , post up some pics of the process and the finished product.

I do them at more like 450 for 8-10 minutes. I like the corners of the chips to start to brown. I don't think 3-5 will be near long enough

Sounds awesome. Really looking forward to pics of this.

Thank you for this post. I bought an in-wall oven years ago that had the worst "broiler" ever, a Bic lighter would be more effective. It never even occurred to me to make them on the Egg!
Oh, and some char on the corners of the chips, and the cheese, would be a good thing IMHO."Dumplings are just noodles that have already eaten" - Jon Kung

Now that football is only weeks away, @johnkitchens, your dogs are all about "almost".

But, I'd serve up a big plate of nachos for you anytime.

Based on your pics it would have to be a BIG plate, because I would probably hurt myself! I want to try cooking those as well.THEBuckeye said:Now that football is only weeks away, @johnkitchens, your dogs are all about "almost".
