Raised cooking grate to....

...reduce flares....is what some "experts" told me. So I bought an AR....and have BIGGER flares than ever. Really didn't think picking up the grate several inches was going to help. Using the same vent settings as previously. Temp. starts out in the 350* area. But thanks to the flares it climbs...so folks....being that I am clueless about this stuff....if any info is needed just ask...

You using a drip pan so the grease don't go directly on the coals?

Are you cooking direct? You are cooking with the lid closed, right? Flare ups are not a common issue. A flare up requires oxygen. If the coal is burning efficiently, and the lid is closed, this is a non issue. Imo

Close the dome. At 350º stable it is almost impossible to get a flare -up unless the dome is opened - no air means no flames.....Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!
