What to do with hot Place Setter?

When switching one's Egg from indirect to direct heat, as when reverse-searing a steak/roast, what do you do with the hot Place Setter? I haven't yet bought an Egg (planning to do so w/the first paycheck when I start my new job) but am thinking about how I'll set things up on my deck around the Egg. Given that I have a wooden deck I figure laying a hot PS down on it would be bad so the best idea I've come up with so far is cutting some pipe to fit in the V-shaped grooves in the top of my saw horses and then setting the PC down on top of the pipe to cool off.

I have a galvanized metal bucket I use for ash and set it on that when needed. Welcome.Jacksonville FL

I usually go direct and then indirect to avoid that problem. But I keep a simple cinder block nearby in case I need to place a hot PS or grate somewhere

Welcome aboard and enjoy the soon to be journey. Regardless of how you go about it, make sure you have the landing zone fully ready to receive before wrestling with the hot platesetter.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. I have two bricks by my egg that I use for a hot plate-setter/conveggtor :-)“There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.”

I have one of these. http://www.amazon.com/Grate-Rack-Big-Green-size/dp/B00TIW8XTG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464975053&sr=8-1&keywords=Grate+Rack+for+Big+Green+Egg+(R)+size+xl
Or put it on my stainless steel prep table, I have a raised grid and place my CI skillet on the regular great and the steak on the raised great. When it gets to about 110 or so I pull everything of then put the steak on to sear each side for about 2 minutes a side and it is good medium rear.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo. -

Is your egg in a nest? If so Smoke Ware makes a simple wire rack that hangs between two legs.

Firebricks work wonders. And the REDHOT chimeny is set on TOP of the Plate Setter to cool, after lighting up.

I put mine on a utility cart (which also holds my small egg): http://www.amazon.com/Seville-Classics-Heavy-Duty-Commercial-Grade-Utility/dp/B00DZZ0R0A/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1464976346&sr=8-7&keywords=metal+kitchen+cart

I like to put that hot mass of ceramic either on my metal ammo box, or a large pile of fireworks I keep near the Egg.
If I have a small child nearby, I just say: "hold this for me, will ya?" That keeps them in the house when I'm cooking.

My table has two eggs and I have a 30x30" piece of granite about 2" thick between them. That is where I put the hot grates, platesetter and anything else that comes off the egg hot.

I have a thick pile of leafs and other DRY brush that I set my hot platesetter in after use.

I should also say that those firebricks also serve to raise my grid for raised-direct cooking at or above the gasket level. They also serve as holders for kabobs. I need to get another box of them because I keep giving them to folks; I'm down to three of them right now!

Welcome @jvencius. I used to use a couple of bricks, but now use an old style Mini nest on my paver'd patio when I have to set something hot down. Almost never a platesetter though. Once mine goes into the egg, it usually stays there for the duration.
My egg hasn't been on my deck for several years though. It's a fire hazard so I moved it off the wood. Some on here have had damage or even lost their homes from grills on decks or too close to flammable things. Many here don't seem to mind though. Fair warning.I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

i say buy a second Egg to place it in lol. JK I do have a extra bbq pit that holds the hot plate setter. Id keep it safer though by doing my direct first then indirect.
-
If you're buying your Egg with a neat, but the Smokeware nest attachments that hold baking stones, grates and place setters. This way, a hot one can safely be placed there.

I just have a simple 18" ceramic tile from homey depot, I use on top of my rolling bench. It also travels with us to Eggfests and I just set it on top of our tables.
Here Shelly is prepping the Mini Cones on one of them, I have 2. I set my hot CI Dutch oven, plate setter or my whole PSWoo rig.

DON'T set it on the ground, i did that with my pizza stone on concrete being the idiot that i am and SNAP! Heat/cold difference caused it to crack. IF you happen to put it on the ground, go legs down.Austin, Tx

If you're keeping the gasser, then that's a good option. I have a piece of granite on my cooking table that is my hot landing area.
I like @Hotch suggestion of a floor tile. That would be much lighter than my granite. A few door bumpers on the back and it looks to be the perfect solution.
