Rocks in BGE charcoal

I am new to the forum and apologize if this has been covered in depth.  I purchase 10 bags of bge organic lump charcoal at a time.  It usually lasts me all summer.  I have recently noticed a number of rocks and stones in my egg when I go to clean in out.  Is this a known issue and are others experiencing the same thing?  Are there better charcoals I should try?
thanks

All lump can and will have some debris in it ranging from small rocks to near boulders to knife blades and other scrap.  If you look at a video of how lump is made it is pretty easy to see why.

No concerns.  BGE is ok lump, but there are better and you can also get them in bulk.

Depends on where you are located.  There is a great database on lumps out there.  Google "Naked Whiz Lump Database".

If you are a West-Coaster in Californistan, you can't get the lump I like the most; Rockwood.

Fogo is great and they have free shipping usually from their website.

I was just trying to be funny.

I really messed up my foot, it really sucks right now. Tore two tendons, and I have to keep it immobile, which I have not done a good job at doing.

Step drag, Step Drag, Step Drag. I got a definite square wheel.

see if you can find a carbon fiber insert for the shoe.  that will prevent you from flexing at the toes and midfoot.  you have to really unlace the shoe to put in on and off, but its an easy option that doesn't look like the  boots and braces that are straight out of the middle century!

I got an air cast/space boot. Freakin' hate it. I will try the insert. At this point, putting any pressure on it is less than pleasant.
    thank you for the information.

To get back on the point of the OP, trees consume all sorts of things as they grow.  Rocks can get imbedded as it grows.  I can only imagine all the lead that I put into trees winding up in my lump.  I've found plenty of rocks, metal strapping, and concrete chunks.  they have all been small, so I'm not worrying about them.

You have rocks in your lump? They are extremely rare...and valuable. I have seen them on FleaBay going for $25k....

But seriously...some brands of lump are FAR worse than others...Royal Crap is well known for them. As long as the trash you find is not burnable no big deal. When I was using Royal Crap I would often find fiberglass matting materials.
I would suggest never just dumping from the bag into the Egg. I always cut the bags open and, hand sift thru it. I have a Homer Bucket that I drilled a ton of holes in the bottom of it, I sift all the fines and dust thru it...being on a fixed income I don't like seeing any of the lump going to waste

Just as an FYI, BGE charcoal is Royal Oak just in a green bag and double the cost.  If you want to try new ones check our firecraft's website.

I've been through 16 bags of Royal "Crap" since I got my egg in January and I have yet to find one piece of anything but lump. I think Royal "Crap" is the best value out there and yes, I dump it straight from the bag.

My egg burns any brand of charcoal. It is unaffected by a rock or two.

spolier alert: bags are usually overfilled anyway

Royal Oak may manufacture for BGE but I disagree it's the same lump. IMO RO does not have the unique BGE aroma.

My father-in-law found rocks in the Royal Oak charcoal.  I haven't noticed this in BGE charcoal.  Which is the best/most economical to get in Georgia.  I've used nothing but BGE so far and the $20 a bag is kind of crazy.

That is a secret formula sprayed on RO and then packaged as BGE lump making it smell like the extra money you blew buying it!

Actually, working on a new bag or Rockwood, @RRP. Just finished a Sugar Maple. Sorry, was not impressed with Royal Oak.

Returns are only accepted when still attached to a fully functioning BGE. Guess you didn't read the fine print, huh? =)
