A medium egg or another large

Trying to decide. U have a large and a MM to travel with. I wonder if I should get another large or medium

My opinion- get another large. That way your accessories will fit both and you don't have to buy additional sets

Never thought of that

I have only one; a medium. I would recommend another large. Wolfpack's point is a good one. I doubt if you would find any significant advantage in a medium's smaller use of lump; certainly not a big cost difference. The larger capacity of the large IS significant. The diameter of the grill on a large is only 3.25" larger, but due to the miracle of geometry
, the cooking are is almost 50% more. The only real difference is in cost: MSRP is ~ $200 for the basic unit. That 30% increase is nothing to sneeze at; all eggs are expensive enough as is.

1 lonely medium in Rockville, MD -
My 1st Egg was a med. that the dealer offered at a good discount. Was insufficient for family gatherings, so I bought another med. At the time, the general recommendation was that the perfect set was a large and a small. That was primarily so that sides could be done at a different temperature on the small. The combined grill space of 2 med was just about equal to a lrg and sml. That worked fine for the number of people I needed to serve. With the kids out of the house, parents passed away, etc. I rarely need both now.
If the cost is irrelevant, sure, get another large. But if you rarely cook for more than 4 - 5 people, don't see that you would really need it.

Not sure why one gets a second of anything. They all server a purpose in size in my opinion. Love my MM but have not traveled with it yet.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

Get another large. It has to be EVEN. I am kinda crazy about that.

Great points...and with sales/discounts on Large BGEs at Eggfests, the cost might even be the same as a Medium.Abter said:I have only one; a medium. I would recommend another large. I have an XL and a M which for me is the right combination, but if I were in your position of ownership, another L would seem to be the best way to proceed.A poor widows son.

I have a large and a small. I would like a third egg, and when I get one it will be another large for when I am entertaining.
I have used the medium many times and like it for cooking for up to four people, but it isn't big enough for me for ribs and brisket. The versatility of being able to swap accessories back and forth with two larges is what I want."Bacon tastes gooood, pork chops taste gooood." - Vincent Vega, Pulp Fiction

The medium is on closeout for 500 cash no tax with nest. Hard to say no to that

Not sure where that deal is but I would jump on it.Large BGE
Houston, TX -
Agreed. Where is that deal on a medium?
-
Wow, that is a good price. Eggs are stupidly expensive where I live, so a deal like that would probably make my decision for me.
Right now there is a guy selling a used xl for 2000. Another guy selling a medium for 700. Both guys list their price as firm.

Wow! Smoking deal. About 40% cheaper than mine.Huntnfish72 said:The medium is on closeout for 500 cash no tax with nest. Hard to say no to thatI would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

I'm a big fan of the medium. Large enough for most cooks, but with less lump consumption/quicker heat up and cool down than a large. Also lighter and therefore more apt to being transported.
-
It's in northern WI. I had them wire up a quote and the dealer doing my warranty on my large ordered me a medium for that price
-
That's just the egg and the nest. The shelves nest and the egg are 575

At least that 2.5 times that price in Canada.Huntnfish72 said:That's just the egg and the nest. The shelves nest and the egg are 575 -
