i am debating between this gasket and the Rutland gasket. If other people want I will order a roll and sell of the remaining amount. If not I will just go with the Rutland. Anyone interested in the cotronics gasket?

No one?  I think I could get these delivered for $15. Just pick your own method to adhere it to your egg. I don't want to open that can of worms.

The Rutland is proven and fully supported by @RRP with an out the door delivery price cheaper or equal to what you are talking about. I assume most on here would go with the proven gasket and be done with it. If you do in fact decide to try something different be sure to post details and results of testing at different temps and abusive methods! I am sure everybody would like to read and see pics of a brutal test environment...

I've read really good reviews on the Coltronics gasket.  If my Nomex were bad I would go in with you.  I'm 5+ years on these gaskets and still holding up great.  Interested to hear your thoughts if you go with Coltronics

We used identical gasket material on all the boiler drum doors years ago (power plants w/steam turbines).  They stood up to 1500 degrees for 24/7, and only replaced about every 10 years.  Awesome gaskets....except those were made out of asbestos!  I just looked in one of the storerooms at the plant, and there still are rolls of the white asbestos rope, new in sealed boxes.  I think I will stick with my Nomex ones.

Coltronics is less friable than fiberglass.

If anyone had any worries re particulates in your food, fiberglass would be iffy. Coltronics fibers are, IIRC, a bit too large to be an irritant like asbestos and fiberglass

FWIW, mark my words. Fiberglass is going to be as vilified as asbestos on twenty years

[N.B. I'm not disparaging any of them. I use a rutland (bought prior to Coltronics coming to market), and tore out my own asbestos pipe insulation. Use what is available and affordable and doable]

Everyone is worried about the gasket matetial, but nobody talks about the ultra copper silicone adhesive.   Is that safe in this application?

Stop imagining what might be, and tell us what is.

    (Short answer? "No")

I asked if it was safe, so your answer of No, means you believe it is not safe?

i should have typed 'yes'. I imagined you thought it was unsafe and meant 'no' it is not unsafe (i.e. It's safe)

my position on fumes has always been: there is literally a deadly amount of Carbon Monoxide, among a bajillion orher lethal compounds, ALREADY coming out of your egg. And so exactly why am i supposed to worry about this one?

@Ozzie_Isaac the short answer is no way they're going to test it for you to cook with.

For kicks I read the MSDS

    Yeah I was bored

I don't see how much of what's in it could leap from the edge of your egg into your food. But I'm just a guy on the Internet.

OMG- MSDS said "suspected of causing cancer"!  Might as well have used the asbestos gasket and got mesothelioma!
Or go gasket less!  It's all the "gloom and doom" talk with the millenniums today.  I do agree that Fiberglas will be the next banned substance.

So do you recommend I not lick the gasket after it's had a chance to cool down?

I have actually been meaning to contact RRP but my current gasket still has life and I wanted to wait until it was warmer to install. With the spring we're having in Minnesota that may happen sooner than I thought.

I have to say, @RRP has it going on with his service and supply. I bought replacements from him for both my BGEs, have not installed them yet, but with the pre packaged material and instructions, should make it easily doable. Great product and good service.

I have been using Cotronics for 8 years with no issues so I feel it is a proven gasket. That being said the new nomex are also a fine gasket as well. The Rutland from RRP is also a great option and if I did not already have some Cotronics on hand I would get a Rutland from RRP.

@StillH2OEgger I think I'd lick the gasket before I'd like the black schmutz on the inside of my egg! Way healthier!

i did my gasket replacement with Nomex from smokeware. I like the way it looks and the adhesive is already on it.

I ended up buying 2 rolls of the Cotronics gasket  due to the minimum order.  If anyone wants to try it, let me know and I'll hook you up.  I have an extra 193'...  :)
