  • Also curious to see the replies on this.
  • Get a Roku 4, Sling TV, Hulu Plus, Netflix and a HD Antenna.  We dumped the SAT 4 months ago and never looked back...I have <$50/month in subscriptions, but we also watch a good bit less TV now, THANK GOD...You need a pretty good internet connection too.

Not ROKU but I have an MXIII since the summer.  Plan to couple that with an external OTG antenna and fire the cable company.

Already got rid of 'robbers' home phone since spring and running same home phone# with way more features off an OBI200 voip ATA, saving over $40 a month.

I have new Amazon Fire Box with Kodi installed. This let me add many other apps for movies and music. My struggle is poor internet speed...

Internet is a must for me, both Android box and home phone ATA need it. May have to consider Teksavvy when my current 50% internet discount with a big carrier expires.

Live sports and reality shows are harder to replace.

I have the Roku 3 - didn't know the 4 was out yet. It's very useful but I haven't brought myself to cut the cord yet.

I have the Fire Tv with Kodi, somehow I don't think most here are ready for it. It's pretty awesome ..

Not sure about up there, but down here in 'Murica the major networks all broadcast in full glorious uncompressed HD. Any old pair of rabbit ears works. If they carry your games and you get a signal you're in luck.

I still have the Roku II; would love to have the "voice-search" feature of the III or IV, but I do more reading than anything and haven't pulled the trigger.
Sadly sports coverage is the one turd in the punchbowl for cutting the cable.

I've never had cable or satellite at home.......we get about 20 HD stations with an antenna and used to have a DVR that would record them.  Now everything is on Amazon Prime (or Netflix account I share with some other people.)  Our crappy internet connection at the house is the only thing that holds us back sometimes.

At the ambulance base we had the whole package of satellite and it was the same movies and shows over and over again LOADED with commercials.  I remember seeing the same Family Guy episode three times in one day on three different networks.  And if we'd get back from a call at 2-3am and sit down to decompress before going back to bed, 90% of the stations were on infomercials!  WTF!!!  If I'm PAYING to watch these stations, I shouldn't be subjected to watch commercials, much less PAID PROGRAMMING.  That is complete BS.  Most of us had our own Roku's or Google Chromecast's and would just use those.  No commercials, pause when you want, better selection.  Screw cable and satellite.

Jays and the Leafs?  That subscription can't cost more than$3/mo on any platform

no idea what that is in Canadian money, but Canadian money isn't real money anyway

we went 7 years with out tv service, and it was no big deal.  Last year my wife wanted to get tv service so we could watche the Ohio State University play.   Funny thing is we still watch mostly Netflix so not sure why we pay for Dish Network. I imagine when the contract is up we will go back to being cord clutters.

We have 3 smart tvs, 2 fire TVs (1st gen and 2nd gen) running Kodi and a RaspberryPi in the Media Room.  We plan to cut the cord after our DirecTV contract is done.  I'm on board, but the wife will need some convincing.

Have the Fire Stick and I hate it.  Spend the extra on the TV if any of y'all are going back and forth.

Tell me more about RaspberryPi.  I've tried to read about it, and I'm just not grasping the concept of it.

According to this comparison chart:  https://www.roku.com/products/compare it should.  Anyone here with a 3 use the voice search function?

(another nice thing about Roku's system is, when you ask for something specific, it will tell you all the sources that have it and which one is cheapest/free).

Smart tv and PS3 here.  No tv service but I spent the coin on a good external digital antenna.  We pay for Netflix, Amazon prime, HBO anywhere and that has us setup.  Miss a few sports but nothing major

I run a Pi 2 in my living room with openelec on it.  Its a great improvement over the original pi and about the same speed as the firetv in my opinion.  The great advantage of the pi is kodi is the only thing loaded on it and it boots directly into it.  It works well with the wife.

What does it do over Roku, Chromecast, FireTV??  From what I originally read, it sounded like it got a TON of content from vaious sources.

The original Roku 3 didn't have voice search.  They came out with a new version and confused everyone by still calling it a Roku 3 but now that particular model does have voice search.  So, original 3's do not have voice but new ones do.  They should have called it a Roku 3A

My Pi2 has about 4 projects.  My fav ones are OpenElec, which runs Kodi and my other fav is RetroPie.  I use RetroPie to run NES, SNES, N64, Sega Gyn and Atari emulators.

I also run my Pi in the car for road trips.  I can the same or different stream content to several tablets in the car.  Basically, its a mini computer with a quad core processor and a GB of RAM.  There are a ton of different projects you can run and the entire rig can be obtained for less than a hundo.
