Tried several pricey ones on my XL that just ended up being irritating. Settled on this one. Bright, rotates, pivots, and it's cheap... http://www.lowes.com/pd_23564-14488-SBQ-3998-CU_4294763936__?productId=3318292&Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&pl=1¤tURL=%3FNs%3Dp_product_qty_sales_dollar%7C1&facetInfo=XL Big Green Egg, adjustable rig combo, Woo2, CyberQ, plate setter, Weber Genesis

That light will melt if you do a high heat sear and leave the dome open, so be careful.Men, easier fed than understood!!

@FlyingTivo -Thanks FlyingTivo, I would have walked right into that one. I mainly do low and slows, but did a sear tonight. I happened to catch your post so I took it off and watched the temps and it definitely would have been a goopy plastic mess! Still a darn handy light, but not for searing...XL Big Green Egg, adjustable rig combo, Woo2, CyberQ, plate setter, Weber Genesis -
+1 on the headlamp (energizer brand).Inexpensive, hands free, and you can get back without tripping on the dog who followed you out to the egg.Bx - > NJ ->TX!!!All to get cheaper brisket!

Hi Nola, I am trying to follow your advice and piece together this setup. I am on the dealextreme site and there are massive amounts of torches to choose from. Sticking with your one light recommendation narrows it down but I'm not finding the 220lm. I really want the power to last as long as you stated and unfortunately, reading reviews on other random one light models..running out of power seems to be the knock. Can you help a fellow New Orleanian?nolaegghead said:Get a good LED flashlight (http://www.fenixlights.com/ if you have the money, or dealextreme.com if you want cheap but powerful). Buy a light - get one that uses an 18650 (laptop) battery. Same battery the original Teslas use. You can get two batteries and a charger for $14 on amazon.
Anyway, then buy a microphone goosneck, microphone clamp and a mount, about $15 (amazon is where I bought mine).
This setup is way better than anything you can buy, for a lot less. Avoid flashlights with more than one LED. Cree is a good LED brand.
18650 batteries have very high energy densities and are inexpensive. You can pick up a 220 lumen light for about $15 on dealextreme, like the one in the pictures below. Will run about 1.5-2 hours on high, 4 hours on medium. High is probably too bright.

I see this is a pretty old thread, but this is what I use, $60.00, and they are used a lot since it is dark by the time I get home from work. I also use them for the yard when needed and I take them in the boat when camping out on the river to fish all night. (we bring a gen) Only need one light on and it does the job.

WOW! Your egg collection is incredible! You could cook for an army! Thank you for the advice. This light looks like something I might find at my local Home Depot. I was trying to avoid having to drag an extension cord out of the garage and up on the porch but this would totally work. -

Amazon has a bunch of these lights...they caught up. Dealextreme is sweet, but shipping can take forever (from China).

The gooseneck clamp etc are also readily available from Amazon.
Make sure you attend the 3rd annual Brisket Camp next October. We're merging the Crescent City Homebrewers with the eggheads, and we should have Yes Ma'am as the band again.

This is the one I have and I've only had it on for 1 cook now, but I'm pretty satisfied. It's easy to install and perfectly positioned to light the grilling surface adequately.LBGE & Masterbuilt 30" Stainless Electric Digital Smokehouse w/Cold Smoker

Thank you all for your help. Nolaegghead...I am going to start getting this together, hopefully with no hiccups. Where do I find out the information on the camp and brewery?

I went to Home Depot a few years ago and bought a external housing unit for home flood lights and wired it up with an extension cord and just plug it in when needed. Super easy project for around 25 bucks.

This one is really good as the light is directed at the cooking surface and quite bright. The light itself is removable if desired. +1frankie482 said: -
An old Coleman gas lantern. Works great, tons of light, runs all night. Multiple cooks out of each fill up. I love it."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber
