has anyone tried any of the SRF pork chops? Short ribs? Loin? Bacon?
pork chops seem somewhat reasonably priced.
is it a much try? How mich different can pork chops really be? Curious about it.

Basically, higher end Berkshire. Although not SRF, I enjoy the chops and bacon I get from my buddy Nick at Berkwood Farms. Much better than the commercial "other white meat" crap you commonly find.

I'm sure it's all good, give it a try and report back.BrandonQuad Cities

I've had the chops and loin. I would say that you could probably find fancy Berkshire at similar quality and less money. It was really good but not like the beef that is otherworldly compared to any other I've ever had.

I would agree with this, I think Berkshire is noticeably superior to standard pork, but out of the 3-4 places I've gotten Berkshire I haven't noticed a ton of difference between them (SRF not included however). The Cen-Tex Smoker said:I've had the chops and loin. We have a grocery here in town that regularly sells "prime" pork chops (9.99/lb). They are AMAZING. Huge difference between those and regular pork chops. Great marbling, and it shows in the flavor. I might have a picture...

I bought the bacon. It is excellent, but not worth the premium price IMO. Wegman's store brand thick cut is 95% of the quality at 1/3 the price.
But that will be the case with all Veblen goods. The last 5% can get mighty pricey.

Any other websites that anyone buys from? Maybe close to quality but also lower in price for good beef and pork?

Can't help with beef, I seldom buy it now deer is in the freezer. If I do, it is usually a subprimal at Sam's to wet/dry age. Or Aldi for grass fed ground at $6-7/lb.BrandonQuad Cities

I haven't shopped there, but I've heard good things about Huntspoint.slovelad said:Any other websites that anyone buys from? Maybe close to quality but also lower in price for good beef and pork?
Regarding SRF's pork, the ribs are smaller than you might expect. I bought the St Louis racks, and they are about 3/4 the size of a typical supermarket/Sam's Club rack. I can't comment on the quality, I haven't made them yet, still in the freezer. From what I understand, Berkshire hogs are simply a smaller, healthier animal.

I've seen some big Berkshires, they are not smaller. See belly pic above.
Healthier? Depends on the farm.BrandonQuad Cities
