I used lighter fluid
Matt76Ohio
Posts: 7
I just recently got an egg as an early Christmas present. Before I knew what I was doing I used lighter fluid to start my lump. I did this probably three or four times before I stopped. Now I'm wondering what is the best way to clean the ceramics to get rid of any leftover residue that might impart a nasty flavor to my food. I've heard using water on the ceramics is a bad idea. Does anyone have any tips for cleaning?

clean burn... just burn it off. say 400-500-600 for an hour or two or until a half load of lump burns out completely.
take out the thermometer when you do it in case you let it skyrocket. no need to go crazy with it.
that should do it. if you can still smell some after ward, i wouldn't worry too much.

Burn, baby, burn. Cook something with a lot of grease or a long low and slow after and then burn that out. Should be fine.BGE XL- Tomball, TX

Okay ... it's four serious answers (clean burn) and three frivolous answers ... seems about right for the forum.
Welcome Matt ... enjoy the ride. Oh yes, do post some pics of your cooks.

After 4 serious, it's time for frivolous. Providing they're all the same.

First of all you should be fine with the above adive. Next go order a weedburner from Harbor freightColumbus, Ohio--A Gasser filled with Matchlight and an Ugly Drum.

As long as you didn't use the lighter fluid on briquettes you'll be fine.

First thing you need to do is say your sorry and promise you'll never do that again. I'm sure a hot cook will burn it right out if its not gone already.2-XLs ,MM,blackstone,Ooni koda 16,R&V works 8.5 gallon fryer, express smoker and 40" smoking cajun

@NPHuskerFL ... hmmm ... that might explain some of your recent cooks. I don't think letting your pizza burn until it smells good will work.NPHuskerFL said:Tastes nasty. How so? Did you let it burn till it smelt good?

@Jeepster47 alright Tom, you called us out on frivolous comments...
-
@theyolksonyou ... me frivolous? I wasn't the one so deep into the alcohol that pizza and lump were reversed.

Burn a bag of Cowboy lump in it. The smoky creosote oughta form a nice crust and seal off any lighter fluid fumes.

The pizza had a bad taste but after I thought about it, I think it was from the cornmeal I used to keep the crust from sticking. Pretty sure it smoked up underneath my pizza since it was on a 675 plate.

Yep cornmeal can do that. I use corneal or parchment. Semolina is best if you can get it.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

I think saying sorry to the lump "gods" as @SGH would say, is the most important part... Otherwise... The smell will linger for eternity !!!texaswig said:First thing you need to do is say your sorry and promise you'll never do that again. My biggest question is...Didn't your dealer advise you to NOT use lighter fluid?LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

675? Either you are kidding or you need to check the calibration of your dome thermometer - also was that on a pizza stone resting on top of a plate setter with spacers? If not no wonder it burnt!Matt76Ohio said:The pizza had a bad taste but after I thought about it, I think it was from the cornmeal I used to keep the crust from sticking.
