I feel your pain too.... Ours is supposed to be back together in 3 weeks. Can't wait to get back to normal.L x2, M, S, Mini and a Blackstone 36. She says I have enough now....eggAddict from MN!

The muddying process sucks,....but not as bad as the sanding. Get some paint on those walls, flooring and baseboard and let's get back to smoking food. JKOC...have finished several basements in some earlier residences. It is a lot of work but you have a great feeling when you finish.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

OH Man; bad memories from a couple of years ago, we pulled the cabinet drop downs out and got into a goat rope. Main breaker box on the back wall with wires ran through drop down. Worth it in the end but Damn!!!!Niceville, Fl

@minniemoh haha I always set lofty goals, then life happens, hope your 3 weeks comes true, this project is a lot bigger than what you can see, this room was part of my garage prior to this, ut involves removing brick, raising concrete, re routing plumbing to move washer and dryer, moved gas hot water heater to what's left of the garage, the list goes on... This is truly the light at the end of the tunnel
@northgacock yes I've done enough drywall in my life to hate the whole process, but sanding is definitely the worst, see below after I removed mask and wiped my face..
@fishlessman and @MrWilliams I am the expert of 90% completion, still haven't installed baseboards after tiling living room and dining room 2+ years ago..
@randall_lee you never know what your going to find once you get started -
I did however take this project to teach my son a valuable lesson, this is why you go to school, so you can pay people to do this kind of work for you, though he has thoroughly enjoyed poinding on walls, playing in concrete, climbing ladders, etc... He has been in on this every step of the way, which also adds time to projects but it's fun -

beautiful work
hats off to you
and
that is a seriously intimidating pic (post mask removal) -
I'm curious, are you a general contractor or in the trades? Why the disdain for a blue collar job? I mean no offense, but saying this is why you go to school makes it like blue collar jobs are a bad thing. Many trades give great opportunities and can allow someone who doesn't want to work in an office job their whole life to still be able to support a family.feef706 said:

I mean shiiit many Starbucks baristas went to school, 4 year degrees aren't necessities. -
What's funny about that statement is a lot of those tradespeople make more money than the people that are paying them to do that sort of work.feef706 said:

I guess I'm just a dumbass HVAC/R guy with licensing, a college degree and USN military background. WTH was I thinking! I'm almost certain you meant nothing ugly by your statement but, nonetheless it speaks volumes.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

I found this comical too. I guess it's safe to deduce you didn't go to school and can't pay people to do this kind of work...feef706 said:

i went to to school and can afford to pay people to do work. However, I enjoy doing stuff myself and am teaching my son to follow suit. In the last month we have built over 200 feet of railing for our wraparound porch, replaced inner and outer tierods on a 3/4 ton diesel, installed a new NG water heater and several smaller projects around the house. Next on the to do list is replace head gaskets on our vtwin riding mower and Sheetrock replacement in our keeping room ceiling due to skylight leaks. I'm more concerned with my son growing up being a capable man and less on paying someone else. -
this pc stuff is ridiculous, i grew up in the trades, welding, its pretty common to pick on the trades and other trades
my grandfather told me that welders put their ass where plumbers put their face
deal with it, any plumbers out there

I'm guessing that he didn't mean anything derogatory by his statement...just saying that it's good to know what hard work is all about. He doesn't seem to be an 'above it all' kind of guy. If he was then he probably wouldn't have taken on this project by himself (just a guess). Everyone doesn't need to get defensive about their own life choices.

Oh boy, this took an unexpected turn for the worst, just to clarify, no intention to disrespect blue collar workers, I spent much of my spare time since middle school through my junior year of college (yes I went to school) working in construction with my dad, started when he was close to retirement from the Air Force and turned into a full time job for both of us. I can certainly appreciate the talent of the skilled workers that do this for a living, but i can also appreciate coming home from work and not having to shower immediately. So I have seen it from both sides.
I simply meant I hope to teach my children the value of hard work and how hard it can truly be.
Ive been out of the construction business since my senior year of college when I got picked up as an intern with the Air Force writing contracts, but the first few years were certainly a pay cut so I still did side jobs, now I don't have to do side jobs but since my wife is a stay at home mom, I don't have a lot of play money so therefore I do anything renovation wise that I am skilled enough to tackle so that we can have a little play money.
Again, wasn't intending to imply that blue collar workers don't make any money, just that I hope my kids choose to finish college so they have the ability to better choose their career and likely earn a good paycheck. -
+1, thanks, this says it. I have noticed some interpretations on this forum can turn hostile very quickly, maybe because I'm new, but it seems like people are quick to judge because they read into something a little much.chadpsualum said:I'm guessing that he didn't mean anything derogatory by his statement...just saying that it's good to know what hard work is all about. Now I will enjoy a nice cold beer, sheesh. -

Life choices? Not defensive... At all. I'm actually LMAO! I've paid for things to be done construction wise that I'm perfectly capable of doing myself simply to save time. Now excuse me while I go get plowed and try finishing this project over @fishlessman

Totally get that. We did the FL Prepaid College for our Son. Worth every penny! Funny thing though...he likes being a cook and would like to eventually be the Chef at his own place. That and he wants to learn my trade. I figure as long as you find enjoyment in your occupation you've got a leg up. LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL -
I get what he was saying, I am ok with it. Some of the wealthiest people I know never opened a book for a college course. They hire college graduates.
Me, I am good with what he says, and I will say the same to my children, do the best you can to get a start in your world. Life is what you make it, never look back and have to think what could have been. Find what you love to do, and you will never work a day in your life. Unless, of course, they would like to join me in the remaining steps of remodeling this money pit we would one day like to call a house. That is work, and I am 90% of the way to 90% done, I am 90% sure.

Nice work .I want to redo our kitchen as soon as we figure out how we want it.Everyone in my family is some kinda of a tradesman. Myself there's not much I can't do. I've worked on the painting side of body shops for a long time. I now have my own business fixing scratches on cars for individuals and dealerships. Not to sound boastful but I'm extremely good at what I do.I enjoy being able to do something that most people can't. It's the best money per effort I've ever made. I love it. In saying that let me make it perfectly clear. If I have my way my boy will never have to work his a** of like I have my whole life. I'll back him in whatever he wants to do. I will teach him everything I know just like my dad did. But I never want to see a paint gun /sander /buffer in his hands unless he's working on his own stuff.2-XLs ,MM,blackstone,Ooni koda 16,R&V works 8.5 gallon fryer, express smoker and 40" smoking cajun

That's the before. We have a 3 plus 1. Wife is 38 week with our 3rd and she wants them all in one floor. So we are moving to the room with the pannel. Bathroom is only a half bath so putting in a stand up shower.

However, I'm the first college grad in my family, I'm well compensated for what i do, but I don't want to see my kids in manufacturing. Everyone wants their kids to be happier than they are.
BTW, I'm pretty handy and we're in the back end of a remodel. Counter tops tomorrow! Woot, woot!
