THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

@Legume, Maredsous is good stuff. But once I had Westmalle and some of the others previously mentioned, I couldn't bring myself to pick up Maredsous when I'm at the store and I'm paying for it.

I've had the Sculpin habanero, it was the best spicy beer I've had, but that being said I'd rather cook with a pepper beer than drink it....Legume said: -

Drank mine right at the Brewery. Yummy. -
This is fascinating. Nerds that drink beer talking about weird brews in a way they will never get laid. I feel like Triumph the insult dog. I used to be like that...the nerds not the dog. Then I discovered whiskey.

That's funny @nolaegghead. You've morphed from the nerd into the dog? With whiskey as the catalyst?nolaegghead said:This is fascinating. And now @fleurdeLirious sleeps with you more?
Maybe we can revisit this tonight as it seems like the comment was wasted on a Thursday night.XXL BGE, Karebecue, Klose BYC, Chargiller Akorn Kamado, Weber Smokey Mountain, Grand Turbo gasser, Weber Smoky Joe, and the wheelbarrow that my grandfather used to cook steaks from his cattle

@fishlessman, I wouldn't have a problem with that as most whiskey tastes nasty.fishlessman said:i swear my dog drinks my whiskey

The prices on some of these craft beers are getting out of control, and I admit I'm one that has paid for his fair share of them. I do think with whiskey you get more bang for the buck.nolaegghead said:This is fascinating. Nerds that drink beer talking about weird brews in a way they will never get laid. @Begger I think the Chimay White, yellow label, is their tripel.

Great thread! I love sampling new brew but always seem intimidated by all the Belgian stuff that I can hardly pronounce. And being a bit of a cheap bas tard I tend to move along when I see some of these $$. I did however really enjoy myself in a Belgian brew pup in Philly a few years back - Eulogy was the name. Had some awesome brews and one that tasted like beer mixed with sweet tarts - no idea what the name of it was. One of the best business dinners I've ever had...and yes, chicken strips and fries there, were awesome.

Yeah, the good Belgians are pricey, but I'm usually not drinking just for the alcohol. Light, cheap beers have their place, too... Like on the one or two days a year I start drinking before noon. That's definitely too early to start with a beer that is 10% or so alcohol.

I should have clarified a bit - I can't remember the last light beer I drank. Not that there's anything wrong with them... I have been stuck on Pilsner Urquell and some Buffalo Bill's Brew Co. pumpkin ale... for the last month or so. I need to branch out with some of these examples from above...

You guys made me buy some allagash. Gonna give it a try tonight. 12 bucks for four! I know there are much more expensive, but damn.

Darby_Crenshaw Posts: 459If you like those 'belgians', you'll love real actual Belgians.
Haven't had a bad one.
My current summer indulgence is La Chouffe. I get it here in a 750ml size or so. Not a bad single serving

@Foghorn My wife and I just vacationed in Belgium last month, where we stayed at St. Bernardus' onsite B&B. Can confirm that is was in fact a one-time thing.

You should definitely enjoy. If you like stouts, the Allagash Black is probably my favorite beer (that I can get on a regular basis and can afford to drink regularly).theyolksonyou said:Tripel aleLBGE

@acn first one went down quite well. Haven't seen the black.

@justinhintz, thanks for the confirmation.
@theyolksonyou, a couple of weeks ago in Chicago I tried the Allagash Tripel next to the Westmalle Tripel - my previous favorite - and enjoyed the Allagash more. So enjoy.XXL BGE, Karebecue, Klose BYC, Chargiller Akorn Kamado, Weber Smokey Mountain, Grand Turbo gasser, Weber Smoky Joe, and the wheelbarrow that my grandfather used to cook steaks from his cattle

There is a nice pub/restaurant in Baltimore called The Brewer's Art that makes some fine ass Belgium styles.
I always feel like I'm under the effects of anesthesia when enjoying 3-4 good servings of high quality, high alcohol content Belgium brews!
Stateside, I think Ommegang has the best selection and quality!

For me, Allagash blows Ommegang away. Are you local to Bawlmer? I love Brewers Art.thetrim said:There is a nice pub/restaurant in Baltimore called The Brewer's Art that makes some fine ass Belgium styles.

Right you are. The Blue Label is the 'Grande Reserve'. I was treated to one of those many years ago on my birthday. An incredible bottle of REAL Trapist Brewed Ale.BYS1981 said:@Begger I think the Chimay White, yellow label, is their tripel.
Any Fans of Kriek or Lambic out there? I'd love brew some up but have no way to store it correctly for the years it'd take.
