Can any of you get 2, 11-15# packers on your larges? I have an XL and am looking to do 4. 2 on the Standard grid and 2 on the second deck which is a standard LBGE grid. Thoughts?

I don't know about fitting 4 at 15 pound each. Here is a 9.5 pound one I did not to long ago on my XL. You want to keep the flat out of direct heat as much as you can. May have to stack against each other for awhile tell they shrink up.

can you go three racks like in a large, two on the bottom then one and then one. i dont think you can go two wide with packers on a large grid but never tried scrunching them together

He is using an XL. The third tier would be the best way to go. Another way if you can get 2 to 150, wrap in foil or butcher paper, put them in the oven to finish and put your next 2 on. Sounds like a good reason for a second egg.fishlessman said:can you go three racks like in a large, two on the bottom then one and then one. i dont think you can go two wide with packers on a large grid but never tried scrunching them togetherXL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo. -
I don't see how you could fit 2 full packers on a large side by side. I have trouble getting one to fit without hanging over the plate setter. I have one in the fridge thawing for a Saturday tailgate.......measured 18" long which is about felt to felt.

the 2 on the large grid would be raised over the xl grid so they could hang over just a bit. I suppose i could foil the flat edge if it hung over the plate setter portion as I do sometimes on the xl grid. I guess my question more is if they'll fit on the grid side by side?GATraveller said:I don't see how you could fit 2 full packers on a large side by side. and if they hang over a bit side by side, that would be okay too as the overhang would still be above the xl grid theoretically
i guess there's only one way to find outXLBGE- Napa, CA by way of ATX -
Not on a large.....XL maybe.

if you skewered the ends of the brisket it might not droop off the higher large grid, i might try that

With regard to the length-drape over a foiled brick to lessen the overall length until shrinkage. I doubt you could comfortably get two 15# side by side but you may be able to work two in the 11# or so range with liberal use of foil protection for any that may overhang the platesetter below the first level.
I'm guessing the weights are pre-trim so the actual hunks should take up less area. Do a test fit and then audible as necessary.

Although everyone says they don't do it, you can split the point from the flat and it will come out just fine. So, split the point and flat and put them side by side, and on different levels. Everything will come out fine. It's all just meat.

I thought about using a brick. I wasn't able to find fire bricks but do you think i could just foil any old regular brick. I'd imagine that it would be okay with the 225-250 temp rangelousubcap said:With regard to the length-drape over a foiled brick to lessen the overall length until shrinkage. That sounds pretty rational. I'll probably go with this as a last resort. Also, I haven't picked up these packers yet so I'm not 100% sure what the weight range will be. I may also be able to get away with just cooking 3 which would solve the problem. That would be around 40# for roughly 100 adults and 50 kids- along with 100 or so drumsticksMosca said:Although everyone says they don't do it, you can split the point from the flat and it will come out just fine. I would use a regular brick in those ranges if that's where you land. Good luck.

Yes....I just use regular bricks from our old mailbox and wrap in HD foil. I'm putting the 15# beast tomorrow night. I'll take a pic or two.
