@WeberWho? It's an OK planer. If you look around you can find the knives for about $50 (or buy them "used" from Amazon Warehouse - they're returns). They are reversible so you're essentially getting two sets.WeberWho? said:@nolaegghead
DW734?
How do you like it? I've been looking for one used but not sure how much I'd use one. I'd be interested in making end grain cutting boards and it might be a nice toy but not exactly sold. How's the knives with hardwood? I hear they hardly last and are almost a joke. Any truth to that? I read the knives are near impossible to re sharpen. It gets expensive when replacement blades are $70+. I did read that Infinity Cutting Tools has carbide knives available for it but at $230 it's three quaters of what the planer costs! Just wondering your thoughts? Thanks
I have the DW735 also - has two speeds - I only use that for finishing for fine woodwork.
You can sharpen them if they're not too far gone. Only a couple times though and it throws the depth gauge off. Plus the sharpening stuff is expensive and it's a pain in the ass. I have a sharpening system that includes a 75 pound granite surfacing block.
If I did it all over again I'd probably get a commercial planer.

I bought an expensive Inca 18 years ago, combination jointer/planer, but when a tensioner belt gave out and it stripped some gears, I learned Inca is no longer in business. I was able to track down replacement gears this time, but probably won't be so lucky next time.nolaegghead said:

I have the money for a commercial planer, but not the space.“I'll have what she's having."

Luckily I do not work for them, just at that their facility. I represent the client (Exxon/Mobil, Deep Gulf Energy). They answer to me instead of vice versa. But you are correct, the are a buch of dumbocrats for sure. Just curious brother Tar, what industry are you in that you have to deal with Technip if I may ask?tarheelmatt said:Argh... I quoted a job to them and won it over three years ago (roughly $6MM order) and now they're coming back saying we didn't give them what they wanted at a concession of $375k. These were the same people that insisted I go to Rome, Italy to review the quote with them, that I did, but worked some long hours explaining details with them. Granted that's chump change for them and really us too, but they're very difficult.------------------------------

Sounds just like what they try with us. However we stick it to them. We shut down their production tonight due to water coming into the shop. They was mad as all get out.tarheelmatt said:

@SGH I did my best DNC fundraiser voice. So are you implying you won't be donating to the Clinton campaign? Every dollar counts

It actually took me a minute to realize that it was your voice. I knew the call was from your phone because of caller ID. But I wasn't sure that it was you until about half way through. You did good brother. I got a kick out of it. And to answer the question, NO, I will not be donating. I donate enough to those clowns every week in taxes. My money is going to Trump!!NPHuskerFL said:@SGH I did my best DNC fundraiser voice. So are you implying you won't be donating to the Clinton campaign? Every dollar counts
