    Is the only difference between the two the length of time it takes to give you a temp reading?

    No. Several differences. Look on their website.

    Just a PSA.  I normally stay off of mailing lists, but I'd recommend Thermowork's email list for those who aren't on it.  They don't barrage you with emails, but you are made aware of sales.

    My new ThermaQ high heat kit should arrive Saturday.

    I'm sorry.   My ThermaPen copy from Sur La Table cost about 25$ and gives a reading in a 2-count.  
    Accuracy / repeatability (both necessary, IMO) is super.    You can cal against ICE @32f or 0c  OR use boiling water @212f / 100c.   I check mine periodically and it is always about 0.1 to 0.3 f LOW using boiling water.
