Traeger owners....why do they always think THEY are so dang awesome?

I had a conversation with a Traeger owner tonight...talked up his wonderful device. He can bake on it...smoke on it... I remained tight-lipped until his rave was over. My reply...'Is that ALL you can do with your Traeger?? Dude, why limit yourself??' Vent over.

Hahaha, that's funny. I have a cousin that asked on FB a couple of years ago if he should get a traeger or an egg. Lots of opinions, in the end he got a traeger because in his words, he really wanted an egg but didn't want to spend the money. So I guess maybe he saved $100-200 at the time and has that eating at him until he eventually buys an egg.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

There are al types of cooking devices for all of us. Some on her have more then just the egg and that is great. The Traeger is a good device, but I like the egg better, because it is more versatile. If they are happy that's all that matters.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

I got a buddy who cooks and smokes a lot on his traeger. He does very well!

Fill the hopper, plug it in, set the temp. Sounds like lazy grilling to me. And what do you do on a sunday when your auger does'nt work and and all the dealers are closed or don't have a part to replace it.

I've had great meals off of a Traeger Is it my personal choice, of course not, but people make bad decisions all the time.I raise my kids, cook and golf. When work gets in the way I'm pissed, I'm pissed off 48 weeks a year.Inbetween Iowa and Colorado, not close to anything remotely entertaining outside of football season.

This^^^^^^^ is why he thinks that it's so awesome. He owns one. Most folks promote or try to build up what they own to be better than what it actually is. It's just pride of ownership. You see this with almost all products. Yeti being a prime example. Ask any Yeti owner (except me) what's the best cooler out there, and the overwhelming response will be Yeti. When in fact, there are coolers out there now at least equal to, and even some better built than Yeti. I'm not singling out Yeti, they are just a perfect example. You can substitute just about any name that you want in place of Yeti above and it will still be just about the same scenario universally. You see this a lot with things like guns, golf clubs, coolers, smart phones, and yes smokers. There is actually nothing wrong with this train of thought in my opinion. Why? A person is a lot happier if he or she has pride in what they have. But as with most things, people usually do get carried away or go overboard in their promotion of what they own or use. I happen to be a huge fan of John Deere tractors. Always have been. I honestly can't remember a time in my life when there wasn't a John Deere on the family property. I currently own 3 of them. If you were to ask me what is the best tractor out there today, my response would instinctively be John Deere. If I said any other brand, that would almost be admitting that I bought a inferior product. So you see, the scenario applies to almost every thing. At the end of the day it's simply pride in what one has. As to the Traeger grill, all of us egg owners know that the egg is better, and like the John Deere, it's green to bootTrixie_Belle said:I had a conversation with a Traeger owner tonight..

If you haven't seen it, check out the boxing match between Mikee and TheManBehindTheMask on the last page of my cooler thread. Got pretty heated there for a bit. Brother Mask almost busted a spring.nolaegghead said:Ok. give me 5 minutes.Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

My vegetarian lawyer friend neighbors have been out of their house - they rented one down the street, to do a kitchen and bathroom renovation.
They wanted some benches - 2 x 4 and 2 x 5 feet for the kitchen. These sit on low cabinets. I said I'd help them. Initially we were going to get some wood and butcher-block some benches. But I am lazy and like spending other people's money.
I planted a bug in their ear about natural cypress or whatever wood you can get from the boone-docks. They found a guy a few hours away. They talked and went out there. This is where the story gets interesting.

They say the same about the BGE owners. Everyone loves what they bought. I have a buddy with a Traeger. He loves it but he's cooked on BGE before and loves the BGE. The reason why he has a Traeger is because his wife's neighbor (before he married her) had one and was moving. He didn't want to move it so he offered it to her for free. All he had to do was buy a new digital controller for it ($150) and it was GTG.

So long story short.... This guy lived on some land near the boarder of Mississippi and Louisiana on the LA side. He was a wall street banker that bought some land. Rich, crazy, smart hippy. Designs second life video. No AC, but huge monitors and giant servers everywhere. Like Col. Kurtz in Apocalypse Now, vines growing over his early 18th century buildings, into the house, on the ceiling over expensive computer hardware. All the while, his many dogs and even a Hemmingway cat roamed freely.
He sits on a goldmine of wood. Seasoning for years. A hobby he said. He has a shop with about 80K worth of Festool tools.
He has a long beard, long hair, he's nearing 70. A hermit that loves visitors. He said everyone around is in the Klan, so he only has three local friends.

So he tells a story to my friends about when Larry Ellison, who was the CEO of Oracle Corporation came to buy some exotic south louisiana wood.
As a techno-geek, he was excited to meet him. Larry came out with an entourage of people. The wood guy went out of his way to make all kinds of local food. Larry and his people didn't eat any of it, but they hung out on his property, exulting in the freakishness of the hermit's dichotomy/environment.

Anyway, Larry left. And he didn't buy any wood at that time. But he did send a check for $20,000 for his time.
