TipTop epilogue - the cleaning I did

Disclaimer! I know some here go in to cardiac arrest when the term cleaning is even mentioned BUT IMHO what I'm about to say needs to be said.
I only used my TT for 4 hours last Sunday and then set it aside to cool off. Today I looked at it again and wasn't really all that surprised at how quickly it had become so blackened. Some might say just forget it, but that tiny coil spring which controls the damper is only 3/32" wide and quite wimpy. I figured if the body was that crappy with crud then that spring was too!
I tried wiping it off but it was baked on PLUS the TT isn't something you take your 2,300 PSI power washer to clean. I soaked it for 20 minutes in hot water and that never phased the crud, so I sprayed it with Easy-Off oven cleaner.

I waited 30 minutes and merely dropped it in the sink with hot soapy water and pulled this out!
I just wish I would have taken a before picture!

I believe that wimpy little control spring will be up for its next assignment! LOL!

BTW ... have you ever visited the Museum of Clean in Pocatello, Idaho? If not, it's a must do for folks who are OCD about clean.

As as for cleaning, I'm not a freak, but have found until newbies and their spouses get accustomed to the build up of crud inside a BGE and on eggcessories they might want to clean now and then.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -

I am glad you posted this thread. I suspect grease build up will foul the TT and it should be kept clean.
It is a simple device, but proper clearances and tensions are necessary for operation.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Glad to see it cleaned up so nicely for you. I read the title and thought your TTT was no more, that cleaning it had killed it somehow.
