Epic Fail......pizza stone breakage

Was placing my pie on the heated stone and it basically shattered. It was an indirect PS legs down....raised stone. Possible causes? What at a mess. Cooked quickly moved to clean burn.

Probably not a stone designed for open flame. What brand was it?I raise my kids, cook and golf. When work gets in the way I'm pissed, I'm pissed off 48 weeks a year.Inbetween Iowa and Colorado, not close to anything remotely entertaining outside of football season.

It was BGE purchased back in April. Not as pissed about replacing it.......was looking forward to the pie.Scottborasjr said:Probably not a stone designed for open flame. What brand was it?Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

Probably a defect in the ceramics. Those BGE stones are plenty thick. Seen that happen with the cheaper 1/2 inch stones.Dave - Austin, TX

I found this link in a thread on this forum; don't have one myself. http://www.californiapizzastones.com
sorry about the pie.Coleman, Texas
Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

How was my comment off topic? Anyway I agree with @Terrebandit. If you know your dealer or still have the receipt I believe the stones are warrantied a year.I raise my kids, cook and golf. I bought a pizza stone at world market. I have used the heck out of that thing. I don't get above 500F, and it was comparatively inexpensive to the other stones. Maybe I am lucky so far, and won't be too bummed if it breaks, but, it works, really well. Cooked maybe around 50 so far."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Did it explode or just crack and fall apart into the egg? Do you wash it with water? Could it have had water in it?Lake Keowee, SC

As I pulled the peel from under the pizza, it just broke apart. The stone has never been in my house. After cook and cool down, it goes straight on the shelf in the garage. Never washed it or had it exposed to rain, or wash.A5firearms said:Did it explode or just crack and fall apart into the egg? Do you wash it with water? Never saw a BGE stone do that! Mine has been to 900° several times with no problem.
Consider a piece of 1/4" A36 steel plate. From a steel yard, it could cost as little as $12-15. Will never break! Mine works great in my oven.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

@Scottborasjr not sure about your off topic comment. If it was directed at my post.....I assure you I did not intend any ill will your way. I was angary at the cook. My sincere appologies if that came off harsh or you felt it was directed at you. I appreciate your responding with assistance.Scottborasjr said:How was my comment off topic? Thanks @Carolina Q ..and @rrp i was rolling aroud 600 and the stone had been in for about 30 min....I.e heated. My dough was oo. The only thing I can think of was maybe there was a tear in the dough and maybe tomatoes or sauce hit it......and some adverse reaction occured. Remains a mystery.Carolina Q said:Never saw a BGE stone do that! Mine has been to 900° several times with no problem.

You fat fingered the offtopic. Happens a lot! Just go back and click again and it goes away. Sucks about the stone.

Yep....that is what I did. Thanks for the catch. Its been that kind of day. Earlier I prepaid for gas and then walked out the store and drove away. Luckily when I returned they hooked me up. I should just head up to bed.theyolksonyou said:You fat fingered the offtopic. Happens a lot! Just go back and click again and it goes away. Sucks about the stone.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

Not sure I deserve any thanks as I didn't even comment on this thread! I get blamed for enough when I do comment, but maybe I better start wearing my tinfoil hat just in case!

Likely a hairline crack or two from one rough handling some time in the past. You can't see them and they only cause problems when you go to use it...
Is that covered by a warranty?
