CANADIAN LUMP

Just loaded one of the larges with Basques Sugar Maple lump to do some chicken drums and breasts. Perfect size pieces as usual. Love this stuff! Fellow Canucks, if you haven't tried it, you need to. It's great lump. Very mild, and the little bit of white smoke there is at the start, clears up right away. They sell it at Lowes.

I haven't tried Basques yet, but have been hearing good things.  I may have to give it a try.  I wish they sold it at my Lowes...mine carries Cowboy and RO.

Firecraft is selling in the states.  In fact, there's a bag on my front porch along with 100# of RW.  =)

Sold at Costco here; but only "in season". I have purchased from the local distributor in the past; "off season"

Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.

Late last summer my lump was getting low so I wanted to load up but was tired of reading all the posts about different lumps the U.S. guts get. Only having RO here I was determined to get something else. I googled around the inter web and also found GT has Basques. I went and it was on a pallet for $5.60 a bagi. I went to 3 GT's and bought 15 bags that day.

We recently had a Lowes open here and I bought 8 bags of Basques during the grand opening sale.  I'm part way through bag 3 now, and it's been really good.  Just to reiterate, it is VERY VERY mild, and AMAZINGLY FAST at clearing the white smoke.  Good stuff for sure.

Still wish I could get my hands on some Rockwood though!  I tried ordering a pallet a few months ago and was told they don't have enough stock to sell to anyone but their regulars.

I've used Rockwood when I cooked on a friends Egg in Florida. Very good stuff! Can't say that I thought it's any better than Sugar Maple though.

Have a bag of Basques Sugar Maole on the go right now, Lowe's had it on sale for 25% off early this year (Buy one at $17.99 get the second bag at 50% off)
I guess because the Loonie has tumbled to less than 80 cents US, RO is more than Basques - go figure. While standing in the BBQ section at Lowe's last week a guy asked me if I had ever used Basques - he had used RO but with the price at $1 more than Basques wonderedif Basques was as good? He had trouble believing me that I thought Basques was better - people sometimes equate expensive with good...

I'll buy some from Firecraft as soon as my current inventory declines. I've wanted to try it for a long time and looks like now I can.

I just bought 8, 4kg (9lb) bags for $8 each. That converts to $6 U.S. I can live with that.

For those that have tried both, curious to get thoughts on maple leaf vs. basques?
